We had a DCS workshop in January where we discussed mainly EPICS and MonALISA (Peter’s talk) Also of interest was the LabVIEW workshop at GSI We need to hear from Juelich and Frascati We are filling the detector liaisons list on the wiki(http://panda-wiki.gsi.de/cgi-bin/view/DCS/WebHome) and we need a few more names We have a mailing list, [email protected], where we added 26 addresses for now We will start the collection of requirements from detector groups (Jarek’s Talk)

FrameworksFrameworksWe considered up to now: LabVIEW EPICS UNICOS/PVSSII
Our goal is to adopt a consistent frameworkas early as possible

We explored EPICS and MonALISA with experts for both present.EPICS: Is a proved system, used by many experimentsDevice drivers widely available; plugins for LabVIEW exist We have significant expertise (Jlab, HADES)FreewareOther FAIR experiments might use it (CBM, NuSTAR)MonALISA:Can offer higher level integration Complements EPICS with good DB and archiving FreewareSignificant expertise and support from developers availableEasy interfacing (implemented and tested; see Peter’s talk)

We might not afford to
wait for UNICOS/PVSSII
