  • Obituary

Charles Edward Harrington was born on February 24, 1934 in Harlem New York. He was reared in Chatham County by the late Sam and Hannah Harrington. He departed this life on Monday, February 3, 2020 surrounded by his family.

Charles joined Rose Hill AME Zion Church at an early age where he remained an honored and dedicated member until his death. He was a devoted, hardworking husband, father and grandfather. He often said his greatest accomplishment and blessing in life was having a family. He was quick to give thanks to his wife, Georgia Harrington, of 65 years, for giving him the family he always desired. Charles never missed a moment to tell his family how much he loved them and how proud he was. Charles’ hobbies were fishing, watching court television, talking on the telephone, NASCAR, wrestling and old westerns, spending time with friends and family and spreading wisdom and kind words throughout the communities he traveled. Charles never met a stranger. His light-hearted nature and easy spirit gave him the ability to talk to anyone about almost anything. He loved regaling his family and friends with stories about the “old days” and was regarded as the family historian. Charles was loved by all who knew him and was greatly respected.

Brother Charles leaves to cherish his memories; his wife, Georgia Harrington; two sons, Charles Junior Harrington (Linda) of New Hill, NC and Don Harrington (Jamie) of Apex, NC; two daughters, Novella Thompson (David) of Holly Springs, NC and Annette Jones (Iagnn), Angier, NC; one brother, Jackie Carroll (Rita) of Fuquay-Varina NC; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

God saw you were getting tired And a cure was not meant to be, So He put His arms around you, And whispered come with me. With tearful eyes we watched you as we saw you pass away Although we love you deeply, we could not make you stay

Your golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
