We’ve got some pretty exciting news we would like to share with our FHG family. We’re honored to announce that thanks to our eco-friendly policies, some of the leading envi-ronmental management systems used by the travel and tourism industry have awarded us with special recognitions, including the Silver Green Globe (EarthCheck) and Gold Level (Travelife-TUI) that were recently given to the Grand Palladium Resorts in the Mayan Riviera. At Fiesta Hotel Group, we’re proud to uphold strict environmental policies in order to do our part in keeping our beautiful destinations sus-tainable.

We don’t want to brag, but…the awards just keep piling up! Apple Vacations, one of the most renowned U.S. tour operators, has given Golden Apple Awards to the Grand Palladium Palace Resort Spa & Casino and The Royal Suites Turquesa by Palladium in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and the Grand Palladium White Sand in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico, for their excellence in quality and service. And to guarantee that we live up to this recognition, we have completed a series of reforms in the restaurants of the Grand Palladium Resorts in Punta Cana, including new cooking equipment, cold stores and buffet stations at the The Bohío Restaurant, and the recently inaugu-rated open-air terrace at the exclusive Royal Gourmet Restau-rant located in The Royal Suites Turquesa by Palladium, where guests can enjoy an exquisite French cuisine and the soothing Caribbean breeze.

Enhancing our commitment to offering the best family-friendly service in our Fiesta Hotel Group lodgings, we have just opened Baby Clubs at the Palladium Vallarta Resort & Spa, the Grand Palladium Resorts in the Mayan Riviera and the brand new Grand Palladium Imbassaí Resort & Spa in Brazil. Some of our Baby Clubs feature outdoor and indoor areas, nursery service supervised by professionals at all times and even stim-ulating games room. In other words, everything parents need to guarantee children’s fun and comfort.

The AYRE urban hotels in Spain will offer free Wi-Fi internet access. Today, most customers feel it is essential for hotels to include this type of service in their offer. Not only for profes- sionals who work from their rooms and need a reliable internet connection, but also for travelers who use computers as a means of entertainment and/or communication with their relatives and friends. And if we take into account the increase in the use of smartphones, a free Internet connection in hotels has become a must-have business feature. In order to meet the growing demand for this service, all AYRE hotels in Barcelona, Córdoba, Madrid, Oviedo, Seville and Valencia will join this initiative. From now on, free wireless internet access will be just another standard quality feature of the AYRE hotels.

Both the buffet stations and extractor fans have been completely refurbished. In addition to its international buffet, Dominican dishes, BBQ area, salad bar, snacks and ice creams, guests will be greatly surprised with the overall transformation of the restaurant which features a brighter, cozier and modern decor.

The exclusive The Royal Suites Turquesa by Palladium, located in the Grand Palladium Resorts in Punta Cana, have recently inaugurated an open-air terrace. The Royal Gourmet theme restaurant, which offers breakfast, lunch and dinner service, now has a charming outdoor wood terrace where guests can have a taste of the centuries-old evolution of the refined French cuisine. Ceiling fans and wall fountains regulate the temperature thus creating a comfortable space where to enjoy an excellent cuisine and the soothing Caribbean breeze.

The Hotels and Resorts of Fiesta Hotel Group have recently received several prestigious recognitions for both their environmentally friendly policies and for the quality of their services and facilities from leading organizations in sustainable tourism and renowned tour operators.

The Grand Palladium Resorts in the Mayan Riviera have been honored with the Silver Green Globe Award and

the Travelife Gold Level in recognition for their eco-friendly philosophy. The Green Globe Award, leading environmental awards in the tourism sector, has been given by EarthCheck, the most important international organization that issues sustainability certifications in tourism. In turn, as part of TUI Travel PLC, the Travelife Sustainability System has given the “Gold Level” to this tourist complex.

In every Grand Palladium Resort, we are committed to the efficient usage of natural resources, encouraging our staff, guests and suppliers to participate in our environmen-tal policies. The use of biodegradable products, low energy lighting, recycling of solid residues and re-use of materials that can be utilized for other purposes are a fundamental part of our policy. These environmentally friendly policies have helped in the preservation of more than 80% of the Resorts’ natural habitat and energy savings of almost 5% in 2009 compared to the two previous years. In order to increase living standards in the area, we also promote the use of local products and foster eco-cultural actions and learning of sustainable development. The Grand Palladium Resorts in the Mayan Riviera have been awarded with these two recognitions after previously receiving the Bronze Green Globe Award and the Travelife Silver Level.

The 1st Ibiza Beach Polo Cup 2010 follows other competitions of this exclusive sport held in cities like Dubai, Miami and Punta del Este.

When you talk about Ibiza in any country of the world, you don’t only open a door to freedom, simplici-

ty and fun, you also evoke images of the most wonderful and heavenly beaches. But Ibiza is also nature, sports and a meeting place for visitors from different corners of the globe. But, what if we mixed together these concepts: Spontaneity, fun, beaches, sports and nature? The result is a unique discipline that has come to the island this summer to stay, the 1st Ibiza Beach Polo Cup 2010.

Cities like Dubai, Miami and Punta del Este have suc-cessfully hosted several Beach Polo competitions. This year, the world’s top players came together in Spain on July 29 to raise awareness of this exciting sport that has seduced kings and caliphs throughout its history.

La 1st Ibiza Beach Polo Cup 2010 sucede a otras citas con este exclusivo deporte celebradas en ciudades como Dubai, Miami o Punta del Este.

H ablar de Ibiza en cualquier país del mundo es abrir una puerta a la libertad, la naturalidad, la diversión y

como no, evocar, además, la imagen de las más maravillo-sas y paradisíacas playas. Pero Ibiza es también naturaleza, deporte, y un lugar de encuentro para visitantes de distintos

rincones del planeta. Pero... ¿y si unimos varios de los conceptos enumerados?: Natu-ralidad, diversión, playas, deporte y naturale-za. El resultado es una disciplina única que ha llegado este verano a la isla para quedarse, La 1st Ibiza Beach Polo Cup 2010.

Ciudades como Dubai, Miami o Punta del Este han acogido con éxito competiciones de Beach Polo. Este año los mejores jugadores del mundo escogieron España y se dieron cita el 29 de julio para dar a conocer este apasionante deporte que a lo largo de su historia ha seducido a reyes y califas.

What is Beach Polo?

This tournament has changed the traditional grass surface for a sand court. Six teams, 18 players and 60 horses have been locked in a four-day competition in Playa d’en Bossa and opposite to the Fiesta Hotel Don Toni.

The teams are comprised of three players and polo matches last approximately 45 minutes. Each match is divided into four chukkers or periods of play. The founder of 4PoloManagement has expressed “the enormous difficulty of finding horses in summer because, at that time, competi-tions were being held all across Europe.”

A total of six teams competed in this event, the first of which was sponsored by the Hotel Rural Sa Talaia from the Fiesta Hotel Group and included the Estonian player Meitern Ragnar, the American Michael Bickford and one of the most recognized international athletes of this sport: Australian Ruki Baillieu.

¿Qué es el Beach Polo?

El torneo cambia la superficie tradicional de hierba por una cancha de arena. Seis equipos, 18 jugadores y 60 caballos se han enfrascado en una competición de cuatro días en la conocida Playa d’en Bossa y frente al Fiesta Hotel Don Toni.

Los equipos están compuestos por tres jugadores y los partidos de polo tienen una duración aproximada de 45 minutos. Cada encuentro se divide en cuatro chukkers o periodos de juego. El fundador de 4PoloManagement ha expresado “la enorme dificultad que ha supuesto encontrar caballos en verano debido a que en esas fechas se están celebrando competiciones por toda Europa”.

Finally, the Jaeger-LeCoultre team, led by Batistuta, won the top prize of the 1st Ibiza Beach Polo Club in a thrilling final match against the Sa Talaia team. Batistuta, who shook his bottle of champagne like a Formula 1 player as he reached the podium, thanked the organizers of the event for making it happen in Ibiza and highlighted the quality of the Fiesta Hotel Group lodgings where he stayed.

Important celebrities from around the world gathered at the awards ceremony. Spanish actress Loles Leon, pilot Sete Gibernau, Giorgio Armani, and entrepreneur and designer Christian Audigier, mingled in the VIP area along with singer James Blunt, the owner of Elite Models Gerard Marie, ex lead singer of Modern Talking, Thomas Anders, and top model photographer Peter Linder. Before the event, the Hotel Rural Sa Talaia invited VIPs and players to the hotel for an exclusive cocktail reception where special gifts were presented.

Gabriel Iglesias, promoter of the Snow & Beach Polo Tour, acknowledged that the event “was a success thanks to the cooperation we have had from the municipality of Sant Josep, the Island Council and the participation of Fiesta Hotel Group as the main sponsor in a place as unique as the island of Ibiza that has helped turned this cup into something magical.” He also added that Ibiza will be chosen to host the second edition in 2011, “a date that will stand out on inter-national polo calendars.”

The Caribbean can certainly be an unforgetta-ble experience for any visitor, whether you’re there as a tourist or as an employee. Iván Brión, the current Operation Manager for the Mallorca Rocks Hotel, gives us a sneak peek into his ex-perience at the Caribbean.

In 2007, he completed the Management Development Program (MDP), a training program that rotates partici-

pants through several departments of the Fiesta Hotel Group resorts located in the Caribbean. Participating in the MDP has been the turning point of his career since it helped him to develop and improve his professional skills, strengthen his leadership abilities, share and learn different experiences, and deepen his knowledge of hotel operations.

What did you think when you got accepted into the man-agement development Program (mdP) in the caribbean?

I was glad for the opportunity that was being offered, es-pecially considering all the doors that could be opened at a professional level with the MDP.

What surprised you the most when you arrived at your destination?

How welcoming everybody was and how they made me feel at home. I remember very well when I arrived to the Mayan Riviera, because in just one week I was already part of that family you end up creating when you’re away from home. I’ll never forget all those experiences I had during that special time in my life.

the caribbean is one of the most popular tourist desti-nations. did you get a chance to discover its wonders during your stay?

Thanks to the MDP, there are many things to see and learn, but you always find some time off to discover your new envi-ronment, the destination and its culture. Caribbean countries have a great tradition that is worthy of getting to know and enjoy, whether you’re on your own or with other people.

from your experience with client service, what do you think our customers value the most during their vacations?

Personalized service…Calling our customers by their names when we welcome them at check-in, or when a barman serves them their coffee or drink just the way they like it after only a couple of days at the hotel. These are the small details that make them feel important, and what customers value the most.

El Caribe es una experiencia inolvidable para cualquier visitante, ya sea como turista o tra-bajador. Así nos lo cuenta Iván Brión, actual Operation Manager del Mallorca Rocks Hotel que nos desvela su experiencia caribeña.

En 2007 realizó el Programa de Desarrollo Directivo (PDD), un programa formativo de rotación por los di-

ferentes departamentos de los resorts caribeños de Fiesta Hotel Group. Participar en PDD ha supuesto la clave para de-sarrollar y mejorar sus habilidades profesionales, fortalecer su liderazgo, compartir y conocer diferentes experiencias, y profundizar su conocimiento sobre el funcionamiento de nuestros hoteles.

¿Qué pensaste cuando surgió la posibilidad de realizar el Programa de Desarrollo Directivo (PDD) en el Caribe?

Me alegré mucho de la oportunidad que se me brindaba y sobre todo pensando en la cantidad de puertas que se me podrían abrir a nivel profesional con el PDD.

¿Qué es lo que más te sorprendió cuando llegaste a tu destino?

La calidez de la acogida y el sentirme como en casa. Recuerdo perfectamente cuando llegué a la Rivera Maya, a la semana ya era uno más de esa gran familia que se forma cuando uno está lejos de su hogar. Creo que nunca olvidaré las experiencias vividas durante esa época de mi vida.

El Caribe es un destino turístico por excelencia. ¿Tuviste la oportunidad de descubrir sus maravillas durante tu estancia?

En el PDD hay muchas cosas que ver y que aprender, pero siempre buscas ratos libres para conocer lo que lo rodea, el destino y su cultura. Los países del Caribe tienen una gran tradición que es digna de conocer y disfrutar, tanto en solitario como en compañía.

De tu experiencia con el cliente, ¿qué crees que es lo que más valoran nuestros clientes durante sus vacaciones?

El servicio personalizado, que cuando el cliente llegue a la recepción ya le demos la bienvenida llamándole por su nombre, que cuando vuelva a los dos días a uno de nuestros bares el camarero le tenga su café o su copa preparado como a él le gusta. Estos pequeños detalles, que te hacen sentir importante, son los que el cliente más valora.

how has the mdP influenced your career? Would you repeat the experience?

It has catapulted my professional career by teaching me what I really like: hotel management. It’s an experience I would highly recommend to anyone who gets the chance to do it. The professional and personal maturity you gain is the greatest reward you’ll get for all the effort you put into the program.

now that you’re working at the mallorca Rocks hotel, do you think that your experience in the caribbean has been a turning point with regards to your current position?

Of course, I have been applying everything I’ve learned in the Caribbean since the very first day I arrived in Majorca. The quality of the processes that they teach over there has provided me with excellent working and decision-making skills that have been very helpful in meeting the demands of my current managerial position.

What suggestions would you give to those who want to advance in their careers and are not sure about the mdP?

Have no doubts. Go ahead and do it. It will certainly be a big step in their careers because they will gain a very useful expe-rience for their professional development within the company.

do you think the caribbean will be one of your vacation destinations in the future?

I think I’d repeat some destinations, es-pecially Jamaica, because I became very fond of both the hotel and the local people. I’ll always remember it and I wouldn’t mind reliving some of those great experiences.

if you had to define your experience in the caribbean in just a few words, what would you say?

It’s the experience that changed my life.

¿Qué ha supuesto en tu carrera profesional realizar el PDD? ¿Volverías a repetir la experiencia?

Ha sido la catapulta de mi progreso a nivel profesional, en-señándome realmente lo que más me gusta, la gestión de hoteles. Es una experiencia que recomiendo encarecidamen-te a todo el que tenga oportunidad. La madurez profesional y personal que se llega a alcanzar es una buena recompensa a todo el esfuerzo que depositas en el programa.

Ahora trabajas en el Mallorca Rocks Hotel, ¿crees que las experiencias vividas en el Caribe han marcado una diferencia a la hora de desempeñar el puesto que hoy ocupas?

Por supuesto, he estado aplicando todo lo que he aprendido en el Caribe desde el primer día que llegué a Mallorca. La calidad de los procedimientos, que allí se aprenden, te dan una capacidad de trabajo y de toma de decisiones muy útil para el desarrollo de un puesto directivo como el que desempeño hoy en día.

¿Qué sugerencias darías a aquellos que quieren progresar en su carrera profe-sional y dudan si realizar el PDD?

Que no lo duden, que se lancen a hacerlo, que ciertamente será un gran paso en su carrera profesional y la experiencia que ganarán les será muy útil en su desarrollo dentro de la empresa.

En el futuro, ¿piensas que el Caribe será uno de tus destinos para irte de vaca-ciones?

Creo que repetiría algunos destinos, sobre todo Jamaica, al cual cogí un gran cariño, tanto al hotel como a la gente local. Siempre lo llevaré grabado en la memoria y creo que no me importará revivir algunas de esas grandes experiencias.

Si tienes que definir en pocas palabras tu experiencia en el Caribe, ¿cómo lo harías?

La experiencia que cambió mi vida.

The hotel has achieved 100% occupancy throughout the summer with more than 10,000 concert fans proving that specialization and new markets are the keys to fighting the current economic crisis.

On September 6th, Mallorca Rocks Hotel gave the final farewell to 2010 summer season with a sold-out

concert by Pendulum, one of the leading international groups in electronic music. Sub Focus performed the opening act with one of their best live sets ever.

El pasado 6 de septiembre, el Mallorca Rocks Hotel terminó finalmente su temporada estival con la celebra-

The changes in temperature and the habits we adopt during this time of the year expose the skin to de-

hydration and accelerated ageing that require specific action. Cold temperatures, wind, humidity, heating and sudden tem-perature changes, pollution or stress are the causes for this gradual deterioration.

Beyond aesthetic reasons, taking care of our skin is a healthy habit. It’s important to prevent dehydration and skin disorders that result in a dry, tight, flaky and/or irritated skin. In addition to environmental factors, we must also take into account pollution and stress. Throughout the day, they get accumulated in the skin thus reducing hydration and diminishing the natural defenses.

Measures to help combat the effects of winter:

- Basically, you have to moisturize your skin using creams and masks. Particularly lips, hands, knees and elbows as they tend to dehydrate more easily during winter.- The sun also comes out during winter! Even under an overcast sky, we are still exposed to the action of UV rays which is why a moisturizer with sunscreen is a good idea.- Avoid sudden temperature changes by lowering the tempe-rature of the heating and the shower.- Wash skin and remove make-up with a moisturizer to prevent the harmful effects of pollution.- Drink plenty of water to replenish the fluids we lose through-out the day and to maintain a proper water balance.- It is important to remove dead skin cells, as they prevent the perfect absorption of nutrients and oxygen. Exfoliating once or twice a week will remove these impurities.- Physical exercise is also a key factor because it increases blood circulation in the capillaries and therefore improves the supply of nutrients essential for skin renewal.

Los cambios de temperatura y de hábitos que adoptamos en esta época del año exponen a la epidermis a una

deshidratación y envejecimiento que exige tomar medidas específicas. El frío, el viento, la humedad, la calefacción alta y los cambios bruscos de temperatura, la contaminación o el estrés son las causas de este deterioro gradual.

Más allá de razones estéticas, cuidar nuestra piel es un hábito saludable. Es importante prevenirla de la deshidratación y de alteraciones cutáneas que se traducen en una piel seca, tirante, descamada o irritada. A los factores medioambienta-les, debemos añadir la polución y el estrés. Se acumulan en la piel disminuyendo la hidratación y las defensas naturales.

Medidas que ayudan combatir los efectos del invierno:

- Fundamentalmente, hay que hidratar la piel mediante el uso de cremas y mascarillas. En especial labios, manos, rodillas y codos que se deshidratan más fácilmente durante el invierno.- En invierno, ¡también hay sol! Aunque el cielo esté cubierto de nubes, todavía seguimos expuestos a la acción de los rayos UVA por lo que una crema hidratante con filtro solar es una buena ayuda.- Evitar los cambios bruscos de temperatura bajando la tem-peratura de la calefacción y la de la ducha. - Lavarse la piel y desmaquillarla con un producto hidratante para impedir los efectos nocivos de la contaminación. - Tomar mucha agua para reponer los líquidos que perdemos

a lo largo del día y mantener así el equilibrio hídrico adecuado.- Es importante eliminar las células muertas, ya que evitan

la perfecta absorción de nutrientes y oxígeno. La exfoliación una o dos veces por semana eliminará las impurezas.- También el ejercicio físico es clave ya que aumentamos así la circulación sanguínea en los capilares y por tanto mejora el aporte de nutrientes imprescindibles para la renovación cutánea.

For our Anniversary, the Rodizio restaurant staff surprised us with an anniversary procession complete with cake, confetti, musicians to serenade us with Dave’s favourite Mexican song. A projection by the Getulio Vargas Foundation,commissioned by the Ministry of Tourism andbased on a recent survey conducted in therecent World Cup, suggests that during the 30days of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, some 600,000foreigners and three million citizen will movethroughout this country.

Brazil welcomes about five million tourists annually. According to the forecast of the Brazilian Institute of

Tourism (Embratur), that figure will rise to eight million in 2014 and over eleven million in 2020, pushing up the country about twenty positions in the world ranking of most visited destinations.

It is expected that by 2020 the country will double the current number of tourists up to ten or eleven millions, and that these will contribute approximately 18,000 million dollars a year, said the owner of Embratur, Jeanine Pires. As part of the Watercolor Plan, started in 2005 to promote this sector, the international campaign “O Brasil te chama. Celebre a vida aqui” (Brazil’s calling. Celebrate life here) was launched, with an investment of $30 million throughout the end of the year.

The South American giant, with an area of eight million square kilometers, including much of the Amazon, thousands of miles of breathtaking coastline, a rich nature in other areas and a vibrant culture, currently receives about five million tourists who leave about 6,000 million dollars each year. From January to June of this year, foreign visitors generated 2,940 million dollars in revenue, the highest number recorded during the period since the Central Bank of Brazil began to document, in 1947, the revenue generated by tourists, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

According to estimates by the Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur), the “Plan Acuarela” goal of reaching between ten and eleven million tourists in 2020 will be driven by two key events: the World Cup in 2014, and the Olympics 2016.

“Since Brazil was chosen to host the World Cup, we initiated a project to learn from the results obtained by other countries. In that sense, we follow the per-formance of Germany and South Africa”, said Jeanine Pires. “We will hold a series of important events, such as the World Military Games 2011 and the FIFA Confe-derations Cup 2013.”

The Minister of Tourism, Luiz Barreto, recently announced that the campaign “O Brasil te chama. Celebre a vida aqui” now implies an increase of 600% of Brazil’s promotional budget. “With this campaign, we want to tear down the old stereotypes that tend to define Brazil. This campaign is part of the Tourism Ministry’s strategy to reach 2020 with a 300% growth in foreign exchange earnings and double the number of foreign visitors” said the Minister.

Have you ever wondered how they spend their holiday season? Look no further and find out some of the tradi-tions in these 4 tropical countries.

Jamaica

Christmas is a very special time in Jamaica and like a lot of other countries, radio stations play carols during the season. Lots of people paint their houses and hang new curtains and decorations. Most families spend Christmas Day at home with friends and family members.

The Christmas day meal is usually prepared on Christmas Eve. The tra-ditional Jamaican Christmas meal includes fresh fruits, rum punch and meat. The Christmas Day breakfast includes ackee and saltfish, bread-fruit, fried plantains, boiled bananas, freshly squeezed fruit juice and tea. Dinner is usually served in the late afternoon and this may include chicken, curry goat, stewed oxtail, rice and peas. Jamaican red wine and rum fruitcake is traditional and is eaten in most homes. The fruits in the cake are soaked in red wine and white rum for months before Christmas.

BrazilBrazilians have many Christmas customs that originate from

their Portuguese heritage. One tradition is to create nativity scenes or Presépios which are set up in December and displayed in churches, homes, and stores.

Papai Noel is the gift-bringer in Brazil who, according to legend, lives in Greenland. When he arrives in Brazil, he usually wears silk clothing due to the summer heat. A big Christmas dinner includes turkey, ham, colored rice, vegetables and fruit dishes.

Catholics often attend Midnight Mass or Missa do Galo. The mass gets this name from how roosters announce the coming day, and normally finishes at 1 AM on Christmas morning! On December 25th, Catholics go to church, but the masses are mostly held during late afternoon because people enjoy sleeping late after the dinner called Ceia de Natal or going to the beach.

Decorations include fresh flowers picked from the garden. Fireworks go off in the skies over the cites and really tall “Christmas trees” of electric lights can be seen against the night skies in major cities such as San Paolo, Rio de Janeiro and Salvador de Bahia.

MexicoFrom December 16th to Christmas Eve, children often

perform “Posada” processions or Posadas. There are nine Posadas which celebrate that special moment in the bible story when Joseph and Mary were looking for a room in an inn. During this season, the facades of Mexican houses are decorated with evergreens, moss and paper lanterns.

In each Posada, children are given candles and a board with painted clay figurines of Mary riding on a donkey and Joseph, which they carry around during the street processions. They visit friends and neighbors and sing Christmas carols at each home.

Each night a different house holds the Posada party. At the final Posada on Christmas Eve, a crib and figurines of shepherds are placed on to the board. When the Posada house has been found, a baby Jesus is put into the crib and then families go to a midnight Church service. After the mass, more fireworks celebrate the birth of Baby Jesus.

BrasilLos brasileños tienen muchas costumbres navideñas que

provienen de su herencia portuguesa. Una tradición es la de recrear la escena de la natividad llamada Presépio o Pesebre. Hoy en día se construyen en diciembre y se muestran en las iglesias, casas y tiendas.

Papai Noel es el que trae los regalos en Brasil. Según cuenta la leyenda, vive en Groenlandia. Cuando llega a Brasil, por lo general se viste con ropa de seda por el calor del verano. Una cena de Navidad típica incluye pavo, jamón, arroz de colores, hortalizas y frutas.

Los católicos a menudo asisten a la misa de medianoche o Missa do Galo, ¡que termina a la 1 de la mañana! La misa tiene este nombre porque el gallo anuncia el día siguiente. El 25 los católicos van a la iglesia, pero las misas son en su mayoría por la tarde, porque la gente disfruta durmiendo hasta tarde después de la cena llamada Ceia de Natal o van a la playa.

suelen realizar las “procesiones de Posada” o “Posadas”. Hay nueve en total que representan parte de la historia de la Navidad, donde José y María buscaban habitación en una posada. El exterior de las casas se adorna con árboles de hoja verdes, musgo y linternas de papel.

En cada una de las Posadas, los niños consiguen velas y una tabla, con figuras de barro pintadas de María montada en un burro y José, para llevar en procesión. Llaman a las casas de amigos y vecinos y cantan canciones.

Cada noche una casa diferente hace de Posada. En la última Posada, la víspera de Navidad, un pesebre y las figuras de los pastores se ponen en el tablero. Cuando se ha encontra-do la última Posada, se pone un niño Jesús en el pesebre y las familias van a una misa de medianoche. Después de la misa, estallan fuegos artificiales para celebrar el nacimiento de Jesús.

Dominican RepublicThe Christmas spirit can already be felt and seen in

November with ornaments and decorations on homes, busi-nesses and other establishments. Radio stations start playing Christmas tunes since early December and businesses begin their anxiously awaited holiday season parties with raffles, plenty of food, drinks, music and dance.

In churches, an altar is prepared with the “Nacimiento” (Nativity scene), and placed alongside the traditional Christmas tree at home. Unlike other countries, the figurine of Baby Jesus is placed right when the Nativity scene is built. Parties are non-stop and December turns into a constant celebration with friends and family. Dominicans living abroad return to spend Christmas at home and come laden with gifts for everyone. In Santo Domingo, on the evening of December 24th dinner is celebrated with friends and family. Afterwards they go to the boardwalk to enjoy the sunrise while having breakfast with ginger tea or hot chocolate and bread.

República DominicanaEl ambiente navideño comienza ya en noviembre con los

adornos que inundan casas, comercios, y establecimientos. La radio empieza a tocar melodías tradicionales y desde inicios de diciembre las empresas celebran sus esperadas

fiestas con sorteos, abundante comida, bebida, música y baile.

En las casas se coloca el Nacimiento junto al Árbol de Navidad. En República Domini-cana se le llama “Nacimiento” al “Pesebre” o la representación que se hace con figuras del na-cimiento de Jesús. A diferencia de otros países, en el Nacimien-to se coloca la figura del bebé desde el mismo momento en que se monta. Los dominica-nos que viven en el extranjero regresan a casa para celebrar la Navidad cargados de regalos para sus seres queridos. Una fiesta sigue a la otra, lo que convierte el mes de diciembre

en una celebración constante entre amigos y familiares. En Santo Domingo, la noche del 24 de diciembre se cena entre familiares y amistades para luego acudir al malecón a compartir el amanecer y desayunar con un té de jengibre o chocolate caliente y pan.

Abrir el filete de res, rellenarlo con los frutos secos y el plátano frito, envolverlo y encostrarlo con la semilla de girasol previamente tostada.- Place it in the oven at the desired meat cooking temperature, seal it on the grill to add color to the sunflower seeds and cut it diagonally. Colocarlo en el horno con el término deseado (al gusto), sellarlo a la plancha para darle color al girasol y cortarlo en diagonal.- Set up the plate with glazed sweet potato quenelles. Envolverlo y sellarlo.- Marinate with honey and bake at 320° F for 10 minutes, slice it and place it on a plate. Marinar con la miel de abeja y hornear a 160° C por 10 minutos, cortarlo en rebanadas y montarlo en el plato.- Set it up with glazed sweet potatoes and xcatic chile peppers.Montarlo con quenefas de camote glaseado y el chile xcatic. - Prepare a lettuce salad and garnish with parsley. Directions / Preparación- Bone the suckling pig and open it completely without tearing the skin. Deshuese el lechón de manera que quede entero si romper la piel. - Wash pig thoroughly. Season with salt, pepper, garlic, oregano and sour oranges. Let it rest. Lave bien el lechón. Condimente con sal y pimienta al gusto, ajo, orégano y las naranjas agrias. Deje reposar. - Prepare rice with black beans.Prepare un moro de judías (arroz con judías negras). - Stuff pig with rice, tie it up with cooking twine, place it on a tray and bake it at 250° for 2 hours.Rellene el lechón con el moro, cosa con aguja e hilo encerado, colóquelo en una bandeja y hornee a 250° por 2 horas. - Insert a thermometer in the thickest area. Make sure temperature stays over 84° F. Introduzca un termómetro en la parte más gruesa. Procure mantener la temperatura sobre los 84° F. - Garnish with apples, grapes and other seasonal fruits. Directions / Preparación - Peel plantains, yautías and buttercup squash and use a grater or food processor. Pele los plátanos, yautías y auyama y páselos por un rallador o utilice un robot de cocina. - Season with salt, garlic and butter. Mash the ripe plantain and add the annato. Peugeot RCZ: Veni, Vidi, Vici!

Last summer, the new Peugeot RCz was finally launched in the spanish market. This model already surprised audiences back in 2007 when it first appeared at the prestigious Frankfurt Motor show as a “concept car”.

After this first approach, designers and engineers went to work to bring this car to life while maintaining the

original concept style. This 2-door compact coupé has been designed to become a unique vehicle that’s packed with emotions. It’s aimed at modern and particularly demanding customers with expert opinions on what constitute driving pleasure.

The name, RCZ, symbolizes its distinctive and unique posi-tioning within the Peugeot range since it’s the first passenger vehicle not to use the numbering system with a central “zero” or “double zero”.

The first “off the charts” model by Peugeot was chosen at the last International Motor Show in Paris as the “Most Beautiful Car of the Year.” Thanks to the votes casted by over 100.000 internet users from 62 countries around the world, the French feline ousted competitors’ models such as BMW Z4, the Infiniti G37 and Nissan 370Z.

In 2010, three engines will be available under the RCZ bonnet: the new 1.6 L THP 147 kW (200 hp), the 1.6 L THP 115 kW (156 hp) and the 2.0 L HDI FAP 120 kW (163 hp). These engines are considered efficient in all respects: generous power and torque, and fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in compliance with European regulations. In order to achieve these results, the car’s aerodynamics and weight were optimized.

Environmental concerns have been key elements for the development of this model in order to constitute a modern and responsible approach, pending on the eventual arrival of a hybrid version in 2012.

Athletic, sleek and aerodynamic, the RCZ’s design offers a new harmonious and dynamic equi-librium based on a unique architecture. The sensuality embodied by the double curve on the roof and rear window as well as its two aluminum arches are the car’s most distin-guished features.

Located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, seville is heir to a rich Arab legacy and a unique status as a prosperous trading port with the Americas.

The Andalusian capital bursts with joy and bustle on every street and square that make up the historic center,

which houses an interesting collection of buildings that have been declared to be World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, and popular neighbourhoods such as Triana and La Macarena.

The monument complex consisting of the Cathedral, Royal Fortress and the General Archives of the Indies is considered the emblem of the city. Surrounded by the neighboring houses of the Santa Cruz district, we find this Gothic temple built on top of the main Almohad mosque in Seville. Many buildings have been preserved from this Arab era, including the ancient minaret, now the famous Giralda, and the Patio de los Naranjos (Oranges Courtyard).

Next to the complex, the Royal Fortress also sits on a ninth-century Arab fortress, but it is Peter the Cruel (14th Century) to whom we owe its Mudejar decoration. These walls house numerous rooms, sumptuous halls and romantic courtyards. Extensive gardens, featuring Arab and Renais-sance elements, adorn the entire palace.

Thanks to the celebration of the Ibero-American Exposition in 1929, the city experienced a major urban development marked by the construction of parks and buildings specially designed for the event, such as the Maria Luisa Park and particularly, the Plaza de España.

Sus murallas encierran numerosas dependencias, suntuosos salones y ro-mánticos patios. Sus amplios jardines, con elementos árabes y renacentistas, enmarcan todo el conjunto.

Con ocasión de la celebración de la Exposición Iberoame-ricana de 1929, la ciudad experimentó un desarrollo urba-nístico importante marcado por la edificación de parques y edificios proyectados para dicho evento, como el parque de María Luisa y en especial la plaza de España.

The latter boasts a very large area (200 m diameter) and features a semi-elliptical form that symbolizes the embrace between Spain and its former colonies. It faces the Guadal-quivir River as a pathway to America, surrounded by a canal that runs 515 meters with four bridges crossing its path.

The 1992 World Expo left the city with a legacy of major in-frastructure improvements, mainly in air and land transport, including the AVE (Spain’s high-speed railway system) to the Santa Justa railway station.

Esta última, es de grandes dimensiones (200 metros de diámetro), tiene una forma semielíptica, que simboliza el abrazo de España y sus antiguas colonias y mira hacia el río Guadalquivir como camino a seguir hacia América; está bordeada por un canal que recorre 515 metros y es atrave-sado por cuatro puentes.

La Exposición Universal de 1992 dejó como legado en la ciudad una importante mejora de la infraestructura, princi-palmente en las comunicaciones terrestres y aeronáuticas, especialmente con el acceso ferroviario del AVE a la estación de Santa Justa.

you can admire in the Parasol are the stunning views from the Sky Café, a restaurant 22 meters above ground, and then take a stroll around the Sky Walk, a promenade that will run along the building’s roof.

The exhibition Impressionist Gardens charts the development of Impressionist paintings of gardens including not only the works from all the major figures of Impressionism, but also of their precursors, like Delacroix, Corot and Courbet, as well as later artists such as Klimt and Sargent. With the introduction of hundreds of “new” species of plants and flowers from Asia, Africa and America as well as the opening of the royal parks, gardens enjoyed great popularity in France starting in the 1860’s. With a passion for color, outdoor effects and the theme of modern life, the Impressionists and their followers did not escape this trend, and naturally turned their gaze to the gardens in search for inspiration.

La exposición Jardines Impresionistas trazará el desarrollo de la pintura impresionista de jardines incluyendo no sólo obras de todas las grandes figuras del Impresionismo, sino también de sus precursores, entre ellos Delacroix, Corot o Courbet, así como artistas posteriores como Klimt o Sargent. Miquel Barceló 1983 - 2009 CaixaForum , Barcelona / july 7, 2010 - January 9, 2011With more than 140 works, ranging from large canvases created from 1982 until the latest, to ceramics and sculptural pieces, not to mention the watercolour paintings, drawings, posters, books and travel books, this exhibition will allows the visitor to contemplate the varied career of Miquel Barceló (Felanitx, 1957). The aim of the exhibition is to have the public enjoy Barceló’s work as a living experience. The artist himself was directly involved in the selection of the artworks, lending some from his own personal collection to make the exhibition a real event, and not so much a retrospective of his work.

A través de 140 obras, desde grandes telas creadas a partir del año 1982 hasta las más recientes, pasando por las piezas cerámicas y escultóricas, sin olvidar las acuarelas, dibujos, pósters, libros y cuadernos de viaje, esta exposición nos permite contemplar la variada trayectoria artística de Miquel Barceló (Felanitx, 1957). El objetivo de la muestra es que el público pueda vivir la obra de Barceló como una experiencia. Para ello, el artista se ha implicado directamente en la selección de obras, prestando algunas telas de su propia colección que convierten la exposición en un auténtico aconteci-miento, y no tanto en una retrospectiva de su trabajo.
