Pak’s Nuclear Energy Program for Electricity

KANUPP(Karachi Nuclear Power Plant- Operational in 1972 BY Canada, Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor*D20(PHWR), est life 30 yrs now extended by PNRA,137 MW)

CHASNUPP-1(Chashma Nuclear Power Plant 1- Operational in 2000 by China, Pressurized water Reactor(PWR) ,est life 40 yrs,300 MW)

Vision 2030 Govt’s plan Pak in 21st century , vision 2030

for Energy security plan sets goal of 162,000 MW including 8800 MW from Nuclear source assigned to PAEC

To produce 8800 MW from Nuclear source Pak requires either 29 nuclear reactors each with capacity of 300 MW or 10 units each with capacity of 900 MW

Cost of each single 300 MW unit is $1 billion. Total cost to pursue vision 2030 demands $30 billion
