• Pakistan is located in the western part of the Indian subcontinent
• The name Pakistan is derived from the Urdu words
• Population: 167 million• Languages: Punjabi, Sindhi,
Pashto, Muhajir, Pahari and Balochi
• Major political parties are Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League (PML)
• Flag colours - Green with a vertical white bar & large crescent star

Description of the Childcare
Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) in Pakistan is defined as formal and informal as well as public or private day care services for children
Religion plays a big role in Childcare Centres
Children are taught Islam teachings and how to read the Quran
Islamic education is emphasized at an early age in Pakistan. It is estimated that more than 80% of children aged 4-10 get Islamic education
Childcare Open 5 days a week
8 am to 6 pm (Full Day)
8 am to 1pm (Half Day)
Children aged 0-5 (Age above 5 goes to class 1)
Not more than five infants are found in the whole childcare centre
Parents provide food/snack for their child
ECE gets around 25000-40000 Rupees ($297-$476) or more depending on the childcare centre
ECE assistant 13000 Rupees ($154)
Parents are involved through field trips, workshops, birthday parties and other stuff
12000-15000 Rupees ($142-$178) per child

Daycares in Pakistan are very costly
Due to the lower amount of Child Care Centers in Pakistan, there aren’t many teachers available yet who have specialized in Early Childhood Education.
However, in Canada there is subsidy
Similar to Canada, Pakistan’s Childcare centers are government funded

Training of the ECE(s)
In private schools, the ECE teachers are usually qualified and well-trained in relevant methods
Other staff include non-teaching staff such as the Ayas (maids), hired for assistance with young children

Higher secondary education certificate
Plus one-year teaching certificate
The provinces usually adopt the same criteria except where suitable staff is not available and relaxation of criteria is exercised
