Pak Pandir and Mak Andih lived happily with her beloved
son in Kampung Bahagia. Pak Pandir was so unwise and
lazy whereas Mak Andih was a hardworking wife. Pak Pandir
refused to work and preferred to sleep all day long.
Therefore, Mak Andih had to work hard to earn some money.
One day, Mak Andih decided to plant paddy. She told
Pak Pandir to look after their son. She asked Pak Pandir to
bath the boy after she had explained to him how to do it.
Without thinking, Pak Pandir boiled water and bathed his son
with hot water. The boy cried loudly but, Pak Pandir thought
the boy was enjoying himself. However, the incident had
caused to his son’s death.
A few hours later, Mak Andih returned home tiredly. Pak Pandir
smiled as he told his wife that their son was sleeping. When Mak
Andih went to look at her beloved son, she was shocked to see her
son was not moving anymore. Her son was dead! Mak Andih cried
loudly. Sadly, Mak Andih asked Pak Pandir to bury their dead boy.
Pak Pandir laid his son in a mat to cover him. Then, he carried
a hoe with him to the graveyard. Unfortunately, he had dropped the
dead body on his way to the graveyard without realizing it. He did
not notice that he had buried the empty mat. After he completed
his work, he went home. On his way home, he met another dead
body by the roadside which looked exactly like his son.
Therefore, he told Mak Andih what he had seen.
The days had passed. “I wish to hold a feast for our
son,” said Mak Andih to her husband one day. So, she
ordered Pak Pandir to invite Pak Imam, Pak Bilal, Tok Siak
and the villagers to come to their house after the Asar’s
prayer. Unluckily, Pak Pandir did not recognize them.
Therefore, Mak Andih explained to him that Pak Imam
has long beard and Pak Bilal is the one who is wearing a
white songkok. Finally, Pak Andih brought back a small
bird called “pipit” and a goat with long beard. Mak Andih
was very angry at him and decided to cancel the feast.
