RAFAEL SERRANO MUÑOZ

Rafael Serrano Muñoz is an Spanish artist who works in a figurative style.

He was born in CórdobaMdrid, in 1922, and he died in 1996, in Madrid.

In his drawings and paintings he shows an unique talent for capturing the

personality of the individual painting.

He has exhibited his work through Europe and he has painted portraits of

several national figures. In 2003 he published a book with his work.

Serrano Muñoz studied at Arts and Crafts School, in Cordoba, and San

Fernando School, in Madrid, Spain.

ROSES IN CERAMIC VASE

This picture is a work of the Spanish author Rafael Serrano Muñoz. It is a

vase with a branch of yellow and orange roses.

This one represents the spring snap with his colors and his beauty.

The vase is placed in the center of the picture to give him all the

importance that is deserved the spring, on a grey light bottom in order that the

vase stands out furthermore with the roses.

EDGAR DEGAS

Edgar Degas was born in Paris, in 1834 and died in 1917.

He was a French impressionist painter. He is known for its particular view

on the world of ballet, capturing scenes subtle and beautiful.

Degas began to paint early in life. By the age of eighteen, he had turned a

room in his home into an artist's studio, and in 1853 he registered as a copyist

in the Louvre.

He was also a sculptor, but his only showing of sculpture during his life took

place in 1881.

DANCE CLASSES

Table parked one room wide where you are taking ballet lessons. Around the

room there are dancers and, in the center, the professor.

The painting was done with pastel shades.

ADOLFO LOZANO SIDRO

Adolfo Lozano Sidro was born in Priego de Córdoba in 1872. He died in

1939.

He lived in Málaga where he studied at the Art Academy in Málaga. He lived

in Granada too, where he began to study Law. Then, he went to Madrid and

there he continued with his paintings.

His paintings have characterized its preciousness style defined in the

details.

GUARDIAN WITH FEATHER HAT

Adolfo Lozano Sidro painted this picture at about the decade of 1910.

The man wears an old blue suit. He wears a long spear that holds in his

right hand. On the left one, he has a sword.

JOAN MIRÓ

Joan Miró was born in Spain (Barcelona) in 1893.

He studied at the Galí Art School. He began drawing classes at the age of

seven at a private school.

Joan Miró is well known as one of the greatest artists of the 20th Century.

His work has been interpreted as Surrealism, a sandbox for the

subconscious mind, a re-creation of the childlike, and a manifestation of

Catalan pride.

THE VEGETABLE GARDEN

This painting was done in 1918.

Every detail is outlined in the genre scene. The plowing, ass, sky, trees,

house.

At this early stage of his painting, Miró works from the thorough, looking

for certain qualities of a goldsmith, in the tradition of his family.

EMILIO SANCHEZ PERRIER

Emilio Sanchez Perrier was born in Sevilla in 1855, and he died in 1907.

He was a specialist in the Andalusian painter and teacher of landscape,

painting realistic landscapes. But in the last years of his life style and bright set

went to French Impressionism.

Formed in Seville and Paris, was in the French city in the early eighties,

when Sanchez Perrier knows the work of Corot and the painters of the

Barbizon School, which the artist gave rise to a new conception of art , thus

becoming his painting to a completely naturalistic.

LANDSCAPE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE

This is a paint of Sanchez Perrier. It is one of his most famous paintings.

We can see a landscapes with some boats and some trees.

CASSIUS MARCELLUS COOLIDGE

He was born in the north of New York in 1844.

His parents were farmers. Coolidge was called for his friends and family like

«Cash».

He get married with Gertrude Kimmell with whom he had a daughter called

Marcella.

He never had class of paintings because he was naturally very good at

paintings. He is famous for his serie of dogs playing poker.

FOUR ACES

In this picture there are seven dogs playing poker. They are smoking too,

because this picture was of a snuff agency to promoting it.

This picture is painted with dark colours.

It's set in a time several years ago, they have old clothes, and, all the

furniture are made of wood.

RAFAEL SANZIO

He was born in 1483, in Urbino, Italy.

He was an Italian painter and architect from High Renaissance.

His father was a painter too and Rafael was brought up between artists.

When he was twenty-five years old, he received his first official order. He

usually used brighter paintings more to emphasize and bright to highlight more

than the picture.

He died in 1520, when he was thirty-seven, in Rome, Italy. He died on

Good Friday, the same day he was born.

THE TRIUMPH OF GALATEA

In this picture, Rafael Sanzio drew a lot of angels playing with arches and

arrows, flying in the cloudy sky, over Galatea.

In the background, there is an angel almost covered by clouds, watching as

other angels have a good time playing with arches.

SALVADOR DALÍ

He was born in 1904, in the town of Figueres, Girona.

He was admitted to the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando (Madrid) in

1921- The following year, in Paris, he met Picasso. Ten years later, in London,

he met Sigmund Freud. He met Luis Buñuel and García Lorca in Madrid in

1923.

Gala became his lifelong love and inspiration, and she was present in

hundreds of his works.

In 1984, he died in Figueras. He was 84 years old.

THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW

It represents the artist's sister, Ana Maria, at the age of seventeen, looking

out of the window, back in the family house in Cadaques.

Dalí did a great job with colours, consistency and simplicity, where the girl

takes us into the landscape that it provides.

The colours values of the work are blue, as in Picasso's early works which

were formed only by range of blue.

The girl suffers some imbalances as their feet, which are very small.

DIEGO VELAZQUEZ

Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez was born in Seville, in 1599. He died

in Madrid in 1660.

Known as Diego Velázquez, he was a barroque painter, considered one of

the leading exponents of Spanish painting and master of painters.

He spent his early years in Seville, were he developed a naturalistic

tenebrista style, influenced by Carabaggio.

When he was 24 he moved to Madrid, where he became painter of King

Philip lV.

THE MENINAS

The meninas, as it is known since the nineteenth century, or the family of

Philip lV, as it is described in the inventory of 1734, is considered the

masterpiece of Diego Velázquez.

It is the last stylistic period of the artist, full grown. It is a painting done in

oil on a large canvas. The people are represented in natural size.

This is one of the most analyzed painting and commented on the art world.

JOAQUÍN SOROLLA

Joaquín Sorolla was born in Valencia in 1863. He died in 1923.

He did an estimable work, for the quality of his pictures and the quick of his

palette.

He studied in Madrid, Paris and Rome. Sorolla was influenced by classical

painters, especially Velázquez and Goya. He got lots of honors and prizes,

including the Grand Prix at the Universal Exhibition in Paris.

Sorolla got international recognition as the best painter of the

Mediterranean light and the sensation of movement.

MARIA AND ELENA ON THE BEACH

“Maria and Elena on the beach” is a perfect example of the energy of

Sorolla.

The authentic star of this picture is the intensity of sunlight and shadows on

the beach, sand and sea.

In the picture, you can see two girls playing on the sand near the sea, in a

light and coloured day.
