Any student of the Book of Common Prayer will already know that the book is laid out according to times and seasons. The daily offices begin with Morning Prayer and continue through to Evening Prayer and Compline. The sacraments begin with Baptism and end with the Burial of the Dead. We begin with liturgies for Advent and continue through to Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost. The Book of Common Prayer is laid out this way because the authors understood more than a little about the seasons and times that make up our own lives. Life is forever changing and what is true for individuals is also true for the parish. Daryl Hay has accepted a call to become the rector of St. James Episcopal Church in La Grange, Texas. This new call is an exciting opportunity for Daryl as he grows in his ministry and follows God’s call. It is also an opportunity for Daryl to continue to offer leadership in the Diocese of Texas as he takes responsibility for leading a congregation. Many of us will feel mixed emotions – sadness at Daryl’s departure, but excitement also as he will take a part of Christ Church with him in his new ministry. We will also miss his family, Terri, Martin, Spencer and Stuart while we remain confident that God will continue to bless and watch over them. Even as Daryl arrived among us we knew a day would come when he would depart from us. We, especially I, have been very grateful for the ministry that he has offered to Christ Church – his enthusiasm, his prayers, his sense of humor and his commitment. He will certainly be missed, but we are grateful for the time he has spent among us.

THE SUMMER SERIES At Christ Church continues...

July 31, 10:00 a.m. Morning Prayer

In response to the many requests of parishioners to have Morning Prayer become a regular part of our worship schedule, we have scheduled another celebration of Morning Prayer.

July 31, 10:00 a.m. VBS Celebration

We will celebrate the kids’ achievements and recognize and thank our teach-ers and volunteers who made this year’s Vacation Bible School possible.

August 7, 10:00 a.m. Anglican Heritage Day

We will celebrate the birth of our prayer book tradition by conducting worship from the very first Book of Common Prayer compiled in 1549. We will also sing hymns and canticles that would have been sung by the congregations who used the first prayer book.
