Pago de Tharsys
Wines and Cavas since 1808
Pago de Tharsys is a small, boutique bodega owned and
managed by Vicente García and his family and dedicated
to producing wines and Cavas of the highest quality.
Founded officially in 1999, the winery is built on an old
cellar which dates as far back as 1808 and is today used
in the ageing of the wines and Cavas.
Set in 13 hectares of limestone and clay, the bodega is
situated some 30 miles west of Valencia in the
Denominación de Origen known as Utiel-Requena.
Cava dominates the production and in 2005 they won the
award for “Best Cava in Spain” for their Brut Nature. They
also have a unique range of both reds and whites
including some exquisite blends produced from the
indigenous Bobal grape.
The Name
Pago is the strictest of classifications among wine and
Cava producing and is the equivalent of the French
Chateau.
Tharsys, on the other hand is a tribute to the Greek
Conqueror who founded the local town, Requena in 1531
BC.
Then…
… and now.
