Going Green with Energy Impact Illinois Recently, through the Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Initiative, an organization was formed to ease dissemination of information for conserving energy for everyone in Illinois. According to its website at www.energyimpactillinois.gov , “Energy Impact Illinois is an alliance of local and federal organizations, utility companies, and not-for-profit groups who are dedicated to helping communities change their energy usage habits, by offering access to a broad array of programs and solutions.” This site will serve as a central hub for information on programs and ideas for residents, businesses, government and non- profit organizations and construction professionals to better use and conserve the energy resources we have. Instead of having to do multiple searches on many different sites, Energy Impact Illinois aims to bring these resources together in one place for ease of searching, because what is more efficient than one-stop-shopping? Don’t forget to visit their website and sign up for their email newsletter! Volume X Issue VII Director’s Corner: Happy Summer Reading! It is finally summer and everyone should be relaxing at least a little. This is the time of year when Chicagoans of all ages sit outside and read good books. I am reading Fall of Giants by Ken Follett, a hefty 985 page tale of young English, Germans, Americans and Russians who fought and loved and suffered through the Great War. This historical fiction was recommended by two friends, one male in his 80s and one female. It is a long easy read, not too deep, and is the first in a trilogy about the 20th century. Picking a good book sometimes requires faith in one’s friends and a little time to invest. This is the first book that I am recording in my reading log for our Summer Reading Program: “One World, Many Stories”. I hope you are joining the program and sharing your good reading with us. Director’s Corner: Happy Summer Reading! Happy Reading!

Accepting Donations

The South Holland Library is accepting donations of newer, in good condition, and gently used books, magazines, and audio/visual items. We will not accept items which

are musty, soiled, damaged, damp, yellowed/browned or odoriferous. For a list of items that are acceptable and not acceptable, stop by the library and ask for the list at the check-out desk or call us 331-5262. Your donation benefits the library, and it is also tax-deductable. When you drop off your donation, ask a circulation clerk for a donation letter for tax purposes. Donating your unwanted items is also a good way to recycle what you don’t want anymore. For further information, feel free to call us!
