Speakers to tick off anti-social yobsLONDON is to get CCTVcameras that tell offoffenders in the street.
Drunks, vandals and litterlouts will be chastised with achild’s voice broadcast overloudspeakers.
The cameras will zero in onanti-social behaviour and anoperator at a control centre will
trigger the pre-recorded tickingoff. And not only will the cam-era talk, it will listen. A helpbutton will allow the public toalert the control centre to turnthe lens to trouble elsewhere.
A scheme in Middlesbroughusing the special cameras, pic-
tured, is said to have cut publicorder offences by 70 per cent.
But it was branded “absurd”by civil liberty campaignerstoday. Other critics said crimi-nals will simply move on.
