TO CARRY JESUS
“The Church is not a shop, she is not a humanitarian agency, the Church is not a NGO. The Church is sent to bring Christ and his Gospel to all. She does not bring herself – whether small or great, strong or weak, the Church carries Jesus and should be like Mary when she went to visit Elizabeth. What did Mary take to her? Jesus. The Church brings Jesus: this is the center of the Church, to carry Jesus. If, as a hypothesis, the Church would not to bring Jesus, she would be a dead Church. The Church must bring Jesus, the love of Jesus, the charity of Jesus. -Pope Francis, General Audience, October 23, 2013. * * * * * * * * * * * * * “If someone were to ask you, what is it about the Catholic Church that makes it so important to you, what would you say? If they asked you, why do you go to Church each Sunday, what would your answer be? Your answers to these questions are worth pondering.
WELCOME
FR. MELCHIZEDEK! I am delighted to welcome Fr. Melchizedek to St. James Church. Fr. Melchizedek will be with us during the months of July and August giving Fr. Innocent and myself an opportunity to take some time off during these summer months. Fr. Melchizedek will be arriving this coming week.
In anticipation of his arrival he has written the following to introduce himself: “My name is Fr. Melchizedek Okpala. Fr Melchi for short. I am a priest of the Archdiocese of Lagos in southwestern Nigeria. I was ordained on 20
th of March, 2010.
Since my ordination I have served as an Associate Pastor, Archdiocesan Secretary, Archdiocesan Master of Ceremonies and lectured at our Regional Major Seminary. I am currently in Rome for my Doctorate studies in Philosophy. At the end of these studies, I hope to reassume a teaching chair in the Department of Philosophy at my Alma –Mater, SS Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Bodija, Ibadan. I am earnestly looking forward to meet and work with the Pastors and Faithful of St James Parish Seaford and I pray our time together, however long or short, may be of great benefit for our mutual journey of faith through this gift of God called life.”
Fr. Melchizedek, we extend to you a warm welcome! We hope that you will enjoy your time with us and find satisfaction in your experiences while here. Thank you for wanting to come to St. James. We are a warm community of faith and look forward to your being here during July and August. How kind and generous of you! Please join me next weekend as we extend a warm welcome to Fr. Melchizedek!

The Nativity of St. John the Baptist
St. John the Baptist, a cousin to Jesus, spent
his life preparing the people of Israel for Jesus.
St. John the Baptist preached to the people and
sought to have them cleansed of their sins, so
that when the time came they would be ready
to receive the Messiah. Many thought that he
was the Messiah but St. John corrected them Someone is following me, someone who is more
powerful than I am, and I am not fit to kneel down
and undo the strap of his sandals. I have baptized
you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy
Spirit. (Mark 1:7-8)
I believe that he was the first Catechist, the
first teacher of the Faith.
Did you know that Faith Formation has to fill over
70 classrooms each week to pass on the Faith to our
young people? That means we have to have over 70
teachers to fill those rooms and 10-12 volunteers
each day to ensure the safety of our most precious
charges? Did you know we also use Substitute
teachers to fill some of these spots when a teacher is
out? Contact the Office or stop in.
Question of the Week? How can I be St. John the Baptist
to someone else? How do I prepare others for Christ?

In the Gospel today, we
celebrate the birth of John

pondered the question:
“What, then, will this child
be? For surely the hand of the Lord was with
him.”
This month, “the hand of the Lord has been
acting through you” as your gifts, to the
Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought his love

providing in food, for utility, rent and other
bills, etc. Thank You!
