Page one: Idea generation sheet – taking the pencil for a walk.
Complete this sheet and include a heading as written above.
Write a short statement that explains why you have used this idea generation method?
This should be based on specification i.e. I have looked a t developing organic or geometric shapes etc.
These ideas do not need to be rendered.
Page Two: Idea generation sheet – mood/product board.
Complete this sheet and include a heading as written above.
Write a short statement that explains why you have used this idea generation method ?
This should be based on specification i.e. the product must have a natural theme, be modern and stylish.
Develop Ideas from your mood/product board either on the same sheet or on a new A3 sheet. Your choice.
Page Three – Four : Initial Ideas
Select your best six ideas from idea generation.
Redraw 3 on one A3 sheet and 3 on another A3 sheet.
Render you ideas using a medium of your choice (not every idea has to be rendered).
Annotate each idea thinking about the following:
manufacture / materials / function / strength / ergonomics / aesthetics / fitness for purpose / how well does
it satisfy the specification you have written ?
Idea DevelopmentPage Five - Six: Idea Development
Produce an evaluation matrix which analyses your ideas against the specification.
From this decide which two ideas have the most potential to take forward based on their score from the
evaluation matrix.
You should include a paragraph next to your evaluation matrix that details why you have chosen your two
ideas. Develop both of your chosen ideas from the previous task.
They should be developed as an exploration. This means explore how you could change or improve the idea
based on AESTHETICS, FUNCTION and ERGONOMICS
For each chosen ideas you should be able to create at least two to three variations of the idea. However, this
does not mean you have to choose one of your developments as you can decide to stick with the original
idea.
Your developments should have sufficient annotation to explain the reasons behind your development
choices.
Include an orthographic drawing with dimensions (sizes).
Page Eight - nine: Technical Development
Produce an evaluation matrix which analyses your best two developed ideas against the specification.
From this decide which idea has the most potential to go forward based on its score from the evaluation
matrix.
You should include a paragraph next to your evaluation matrix that details why you have chosen this idea.
You should now begin to develop your idea focusing on the technical aspects of its design. This should be
annotated and detail information such as: MANUFACTURING PROCESSES / MATERIAL SELECTION / HOW IT
WILL WORK, BE BUILT, HOW PARTS WILL FIT TOGETHER.
Page Ten: Solution
This sheet should include the final design of your product.
It should be well sketched and well rendered. You could choose to make a 3D CAD model instead if you know
how.
Write an evaluation of the final idea, detailing how well it solves the specification.
Page Seven: Modelling
This page should include images of your models made in he workshop and an evaluation of each model i.e.
why did you make the model and what have you realised from making it (e.g. improvements required)
