Hospital honors physicians, Caplan A special luncheon was held Friday, March 29, in honor of the physi- cians on Doctor's Day. Physicians and their spouses were served a spe- cial lunch and presented with a gift of an engraved pen. Hospital Admin- istrator Steve Henderson presented a plaque to Dr. William Caplan in recognition of his many years of service to Rice Medical Center. Caplan will be retiring May 15. Law ley conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of E. Main St. As a result of the stop, 23-year-old Rafaela Samaniego of Eagle Lake was arrested for driv- ing while her license was suspended, a Class "B" misdemeanor.

Earlier this year, on Jan. 28, the Columbus Police Department arrested Samaniego for DWI and she was con- victed of that DWI on May 27, 2002. Then, on April 9,2002, the ELPD ar- rested Samaniego for DWI 2nd of- fense and for driving while her license was suspended.

Justice of the Peace Larry Dulany placed a mandatory condition of bail bond on Samaniego, which required

Samaniego was alleged to have been operating a vehicle without such a device when she was stopped on May 6. Samaniego was confined at the CCDC.

At 9:22 p.m., Officer Rosalinda Perez and Sgt. Crume were dis- patched to a disturbance in the 1000 block of East B Street. The dispute was verbal in nature and the officers calmed the situation down at the scene. No charges were filed.
