Page 2 October 8, 2009 MANHATTAN BEACH SUN Happy Tails Purrfect Companions Pets Without Partners If you missed us at the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair, come to our regular adop- tion day this Saturday. Our volunteers will be there with the great dogs and puppies looking for loving homes. Ty is a beautiful purebred Tibetan Mastiff. Everyone who meets Ty instantly loves him. He is a very handsome boy with his lion- esque red coat. He is as sweet as he is big. Ty is three years old and weighs over 120 pounds. He is very friendly and affectionate with people, great on a leash and a very go- with-the-flow kind of dog. He has had some obedience training and can sit, shake and lay down on command. With his thick coat, Ty would not do well in the heat unless he can be inside with air conditioning. He has a very calm and endearing personality, and is a true gentle giant. Yet he has his silly side, too. Ty would do best in a home by himself or with a female dog. He is not cat-safe. Ty is current on his vaccinations, microchipped and neutered. Beautiful Roxy was rescued from the river in Arizona. She is a little shy at first, but give her a few minutes and she is all over you. She has a very beautiful, tri-colored coat and a great looking face. Roxy’s foster mom is doing all the work for you. Roxy is already housebroken with an open door, can sit for treats and is good on a leash. She has good play manners with other dogs and with kids. This very sweet, friendly, 12-month-old girl has a terrific tail-wagging personality. She does well with all other dogs, both male and female. Roxy is still young and puppy-like in her ways. She would benefit from daily walks and play periods to exert her energy, so she would be best placed in a home rather then in an apartment setting. Roxy is current on her vaccinations, microchipped and spayed. Maya is a Petit Brabancon, which is the shorthaired variety of the Belgian Griffons. She is a very sweet dog who is one year old, weighs eight pounds and is fully grown. She is wonderful with all other dogs, is cat-safe and good with children 10 and over. Maya loves to go for walks, is very playful with toys and other dogs, and lights up the room wherever she goes. She is spunky, silly and sweet. Her funny little face will keep a smile on yours. Maya will need a little help with housetraining; she is 50 percent there. Maya is current on her vaccinations, microchipped and spayed. This is an amazing story of survival by Cameron with her mom (Cuddy), dad (Wilson) and her siblings (Chase and Thir- teen) who were born on July 1, 2009 in a field and survived a two-month heat wave out on their own. Cameron and her family (also available for adoption) survived the heat despite being eaten alive by bugs and starving for food. So without further ado, meet Cameron. She is an amazing puppy and survivor. She is a very loving, sweet, silly, playful, well-adjusted little girl. Cam- eron weighed five pounds as of September 27, 2009 and is ready to go home with you. Cameron is current on her vaccinations, has been de-wormed, is microchipped, and will be spayed when of age. To learn more about these and other wonderful dogs and cats, visit our website at www.animalsrule.org. Or come to our Saturday adoption events from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 305 North Harbor Boulevard, San Pedro. Look for the big, red, brick building just past the corner of O’Farrell. Our website is always current. If the dog’s picture is on this website, it is still available. E-mail is the best way to communicate with us: info@ animalsrule.org. We are always in need of donations for veterinarian bills and our senior dogs. Dona- tions can be made though our website or by sending a check payable to: Animals Rule Placement Foundation at 305 North Harbor Blvd. San Pedro, CA 90731. All donations are tax- deductible. We are a registered 501(C)3 non-profit organization. Saving one animal won’t change the world, but the world will surely change for that animal. Maya Ty Roxy Sheena Pippy Yogi Shasta Cameron This week’s “Happy Tail” touched the lives of our “Pets Without Partners” that are waiting for adoption. Our “tail” is about the selfless act of a 6-year-old girl who donated to the animals in lieu of party gifts. After read- ing the pet page in the El Segundo Herald, Caleigh’s mother, Debra, contacted Animals Rule about bringing supplies donated for the animals and explained this would be part of her daughter’s birthday celebration. Debra sent the following note to them. “I attached Carleigh’s birthday invita- tion so you can see how we worded it. We didn’t have to do much convincing. People wanted to help and to come!! Carleigh just loves animals, especially doggies!!! And we expressed that to everyone. Instead of Carleigh getting more toys that we don’t need, we wanted to give to someone that did need. And Carleigh chose the doggies :)….Thanks, Debra” So, Carleigh and nine of her friends from the El Se- gundo Center Street School along with their parents came an Animals Rule adoption day. Carleigh’s party friends included Brooke Martin, Theia Sexton, Chase Little, Tierney Morton, Summer McGrath, Sarah Grace Kusserow and Ian Greenway. The kids brought their gifts and were so excited to see the animals. They loved Sherman the 110-pound Mastiff and the warehouse cat Lorenzo (held by Carleigh in the photo.) They then went on to “Build a Bear” and lunch. After Carleigh’s visit, Animals Rule sent this note… “All the parents gave me permission to send this story to you. I know they would all get a kick out of being in the paper and hopefully it would inspire others to donate as well as touch the hearts of animal lovers that a 6-year-old ditched her birthday gifts in order to donate laundry detergent, bleach, paper towels, sponges, simple green, and toys to animals…Shannon” Cuddly cats and kittens are waiting for the chance to be your purrfect match. Sheena is a fanciful and pretty little Tor- toiseshell and white kitty. She lost her mother and was rescued at just a few days old along with her siblings, Shasta and Pippy. They would have surely died if they hadn’t been found, brought into rescue and bottle-fed until they could be weaned. Sheena is very playful and is the leader among her siblings. She even tries to give her foster mom march- ing orders sometimes. Seeking out love and attention when she wants it, Sheena loves to play with her cat dancer, balls and mice. She also enjoys crawling into boxes and climbing her cat furniture. She loves playing with her siblings also. Because Sheena was bottle-fed and has only known a human mother and craves human attention, she starts to purr as soon as you look at her. She would love to be adopted with one of her siblings or into a home with another kitty. Pippy is just what her name says: Pippy! She is always bouncing around, playing and meowing, asking for lots of love and attention. Pippy will jump on your lap to get attention; she loves human interaction that much! She is just totally sweet, loving, very social and playful. She will purr up a storm as soon as she has your attention. Pippy also will lay there looking at you and acting like the cute little princess that she is. Shasta is the smallest among his siblings and he is the most playful and rambunctious of the bunch. He has the cutest little face when he is playing and is in “attack” mode. He looks like a little bear. It is hilarious! Shasta loves to play with all his kitty toys, batting them around while dancing and prancing. He also loves playing with his siblings. Because Shasta loves his human’s attention, he is a totally sweet and loving boy. Yogi is a young boy who is an outgoing, talkative, playful and affectionate fellow with gobs of personality and energy. Yogi is unbelievably dog-friendly - he can often be found rubbing up against his foster dad’s Pit Bull, purring and chirping up a storm. His attitude towards other cats seems to be that he takes a while to get used to them and will pretend to be hostile for one or two weeks, but then he gets over himself and will be quite friendly and playful with them. He loves to wrestle, so he would be best off in a home with a cat who could handle a rambunctious teen like him. One of Yogi’s many peculiar quirks is that he has it in for the vacuum cleaner. Anyone who has had cats knows that usually when you turn a vacuum on, the cats will scatter. Not Yogi. He is what we call “vacuum aggres- sive,” and will follow it around, whacking at it with his paw. It makes vacuuming a contact sport in his foster dad’s house. Yogi is a cat you won’t want to miss! Are you unable to adopt, but would love to have a kitty in your home? With “kitten season” in full bloom, we have an urgent need for foster parents. Interested? Please email us at [email protected] for more information. All of our kitties are spayed/neutered, microchipped, tested for FeLV and FIV, de- wormed and current on their vaccinations.
