o Credentials of matriculating students – one of 13 law schools in the United States to raise LSAT and GPA at 25/50/75 percentiles for class entering in Fall 2018 while also having over 22% students who identified as from traditionally underrepresented groups and over 23% first-generation college students.

o Bar passage – 92.5% bar passage for first-time takers in 2017 (19th best rate in the country) through supporting innovative program developed by Assistant Dean of Students

o US News ranking – rose by 18 over two years (from 82 in 2017 to 74 in 2018 to 64 in 2019). • Developing cutting-edge technology initiatives through internal and external partnerships:

o Created Associate Dean for Innovation and Technology o Established Legal-Tech Virtual Lab that (1) trains Penn State Law students in emerging legal

technologies in partnership with legal-tech companies and law firms; (2) will train students across Penn State on the legal issues around these technologies; and (3) will work with other units and the new Center for Immersive Experiences on innovative educational content.

o Established and lead monthly national law deans’ discussion of technology; Director of Legal-Tech Virtual Lab leads parallel meetings with law school tech leaders.

o Piloting noncredit courses aimed at nonlawyers with World Campus and developing other online courses for entering law students and for interdisciplinary masters programs

o Growing Externships Everywhere program to enhance student employment opportunities and using distance learning technology in virtual conferencing and partnerships

o Hosted major 2018 national conference with virtual conferencing that brought together the biennial Society of American Law Teachers teaching conference with the first-ever conference of the Association of American Law Teachers Section on Technology, Law, and Legal Education.

• Building new strategic initiatives across Penn State: o Interdisciplinary faculty hires at Penn State Law and the School of International Affairs –

including first cohires with College of Engineering, College of Medicine, Rock Ethics Institute o Penn State Law and School of International Affairs are playing leadership role in new university-

wide centers in energy and security. o Collaboration among College of Engineering, Penn State Law, and School of International

Affairs to build innovative Law, Policy, and Engineering educational and research programs – including conferences in election security and bio-tech; research partnership on autonomous vehicles; plan to launch new master degree in Engineering Law and Policy; inaugural director; Policy Innovation Lab of Tomorrow (PILOT) established by new cohire.

o Established partnership between Veterans and Servicemembers Legal Clinic and College of Nursing; Penn State Law is participating in university-wide substance abuse initiative.

o Pilot with Graduate School to allow J.D. to be paired with any masters at Penn State. o Expanded School of International Affairs Integrated Undergraduate/Graduate (IUG) programs. o Partnering with Commonwealth Campuses and STEM colleges on law school advising to ensure

that students receive the information and guidance to make informed decisions. o Established weekly Faculty Works in Progress workshop at Penn State Law that includes

presenters and participants from multiple disciplines. • Establishing new international partnerships:

o Penn State Law is tied for second in university in its number of international MOUs. o Panama visit with Board of Advisors Chair Chief Judge Smith finalized MOUs with Panama Bar

Association and Universidad Latina de Panama School of Law. Penn State Law piloted Summer 2019 legal English certificate program in Panama.

o Visit to Honduras and Mexico with Board of Advisors Chair Chief Judge Smith built partnerships with Honduran Senate, Mexican Bar Association, and universities. The Honduran Senate is establishing scholarships to support Honduran students coming to Penn State.

• Expanding diversity and inclusion initiatives and support: o Created Penn State Law Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion and collaborate on initiatives

and programming to enhance the diversity of our faculty, staff, and students and to create a supportive, inclusive environment.

o Hosted 2019 Lutie Conference for African-American women law scholars under Associate Dean for External Affairs and Corporate Partnerships’ leadership, and co-sponsor of National Northeast People of Color Legal Scholarship Conference and Society of American Law Schools awards celebration.

o Presented on tech and access to justice at 2018 Black Alumni Reunion, working with Penn State alumni to connect to broader diversity initiatives, and led 2018 panel of deans on these issues.

o Providing funding for Black Law Students Association students to travel to national and regional board meetings.

• Growing development capacity and alumni outreach: o Penn State Law Board of Advisors has grown by 7 members, many of whom increase board
