By the time you read this bulletin message, our new name and that we are one parish should have been announced and that it will become effective on July 1. Because of the bulletin’s early deadline, I do not have that official information as yet. But by May 18, the Bishop will officially announce this.
These are exciting times. I know that they are also times of great anxiety for some. But remember the most common phrase of our Savior in Scripture is “do not be afraid” or “fear not.” Jesus said these words more than any other statements in all the new testament. I believe he said these words for a reason, of course. Fear is often the very thing that causes us to sin. In fact, I believe behind just about any sin you can name, there is an element of fear as the motivation. For example, people who are afraid they will do without, steal. People who are afraid they may get in trouble, lie. People who fear failure often cheat. The list can go on and on. Con-sider any sin; fear is often one of the motivating factors. In the place of fear, we must trust in God and one another. All those who have gone before us in Law-rence County have faced challenging times in the past. They chose to establish parishes, build churches and schools. They did what was needed in their time in history.
This is our time and our history. We have to prove to the world that we are noble descendants of the gen-
erations who have gone before us. They had the courage to do what was needed in their time. We also must roll up our sleeves and do what is needed in our time. We have to stand strong, be united and show that we trust in the Lord and will do whatever we can to live our faith in Him and pass it on to the next generation.
There is a great deal of work that must be done and it cannot be done alone. We have to work together. I am so very grateful to all of you who have been working together and have got us to this point so quickly. When I was assigned to the seven parishes of Lawrence County, the Bish-op said we had two years to be ready to be named one parish. This has been accomplished with the grace of God and your cooperation within six months! We are a year and a half ahead of schedule! There is a great deal that still must be done, but I am confident if we continue to work together and pray together, we will indeed stay together! This we must do for the sake of those who will come after us.
These are indeed historical times. And future generations depend on what we do and what we do not do during these days and years ahead. Take the good work the Lord has begun in us; bring it to ful-fillment! God love you,

C) Praise God!
The word “Alleluia” (and its alternate spelling
“Hallelujah”) is taken directly from the Hebrew language
and means literally Praise God. For both Jews and Christians,
the term has been used as a joyful expression of praise and
thanksgiving to God. “Alleluia” was used in the Old Testament
in the book of Psalms, especially Psalms 104-150, the Praise
Psalms. Today in common usage, we exclaim the word to indi-
cate our approval or express our thanksgiving.
Throughout the 40 days of Lent, we had refrained from using
the jubilant word Alleluia. Now throughout the 50 days of the
Easter season, we gloriously sing out “Alleluia” repeatedly.
We use the word to express our joy that Christ is risen and lives
among us and in us. Jesus was raised from the dead by God!
And we, too, live forever with him! In our prayers and songs
we repeatedly praise God for this. Rejoicing that through
Christ’s death and resurrection we are saved, we unite our-
selves to him through our own daily dying to sin and rising to
live as he did -- in service to others. This is the wonderful and
good news that excites us as Catholic Christians, prompting us to
sing and proclaim enthusiastically, “Alleluia!” over and over
again.
What could ever be more magnificent than what we celebrate
during these 50 Days of Easter? How excited are you about the
Resurrection? How excited are you that Christ is alive and lives
in the heart of each one of us? How excited are you that you ac-
tually share in the life of God in such an incredible way? So,
are you an “Alleluia” person? Praise God! Alleluia!
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS
Each week we will feature one of the 7 new Catho-
lics who were fully initiated and joined our parish at
the Easter Vigil this year? This week we introduce to
you Doug Butch, a catechumen from St. James Par-
ish.
Doug was raised in Edinburg and now lives in Low-
ellville. Son of the late Albert and Carolyn Butch, he
is married to Rose Yanno Butch and is the owner of
Doug’s Cleaning Service. He played CYO basketball
for St. James in high school and still plays the sport
in adult leagues. He was fully initiated at the Easter
Vigil along with Rose and their son, Noah Ramirez.
Mike Deemer, also from St. James, served as Doug’s
sponsor. His godparents were Deacon John Carran
and Sr. Zoe Ann Reiter.
Doug tells us that “This journey has been enlighten-
ing and taught me so much. I know I am where I
should be. I am so thankful to have celebrated my
Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist in the Catho-
lic Church.”

How to survive social media and still be an evangelist! Family movie nights are a great way to bond with each oth-er, especially in this day and age when everyone has their nose in a different electronic device and are doing their own thing. On any given evening, your home might look some-thing like this – one is playing video games, while another is Face Timing a friend, and another is YouTubing.
It is important to note that the definition of family does not only mean parents with children, but family includes those couples without children, too. Electronics can be an effective means to unify and evangelize your family. An exam-ple of good electronic usage is by utilizing our parish subscription to FORMED to find movies that are entertaining and have sound Catho-lic moral values. With the school year winding down, and no more evenings to do homework (at least until the Fall), make time to pop the popcorn and gather together to watch some good movies this summer. But not only watch the movies – discuss what you have watched so that you may grow together in understanding the meaning of our Catholic faith.

In The Holy City
The second reading today and next week comes from the Revelation of St. John. He talks about
his vision of The Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of
heaven from God!
“I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, God’s dwelling is with the hu-man race. He will dwell with them and they will be his people
and God himself will always be with them as their God.” He also says that there will be no more sadness or death. Can you imag-ine spending eternity there?! I wonder sometimes what it will be
like.
One thing I’m sure of, there will be lots of SINGING! Music is mentioned many many times all through the Bible. How our Lord must love when we sing! Our Sunday Mass is full of sing-
ing! Heaven must be full of song! My favorite part is the Holy Holy.
Before we sing, the priest says (something like) “Therefore, overcome with paschal joy, every land, every people exults in
your praise and even the heavenly Powers, with the angelic
hosts, sing together the unending hymn of your glory, as they
acclaim,” Holy Holy Holy! WOW (the angels and saints are
singing with us!) If that’s not a foretaste of the Holy City, I don’t know what is!

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Benediction and veneration of the relic of St. Anthony.
