Eric Antebi recently brought some much-needed Sun (and Little League pride) to the northern shores of Iceland. On the way, he had to put up with “white out” snows, horizontal rain storms, 50 mile per hour winds

Crewmembers inspected and ventilated the area. They called Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) to the scene. 7:29 a.m. 2200 block of Otis Drive, citizen assist; 9:13 a.m. Eighth Street, block number not given, report of a leaking fire hydrant. Crewmembers tightened the hydrant’s seal and stopped the leak. 11:33 p.m. 1500 block of Pacific Avenue, report of a resi-dential structure fire. Firefighters found an active fire on the exte-rior of a two-story residence. They used pre-connected hose lines to knock the fire down, containing it to its point of origin. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters ventilated the res-idence and called PG&E to the scene to inspect the natural gas fittings; 8:16 p.m. 500 block of Willow Street. Firefighters helped turn off water service to a commercial property.

AFD Offers Safety Program

Department (AFD) Safety Accessibility Program provides services to low-to-moderate income residents over 62 and to the disabled of any age. The program installs smoke and car-bon monoxide detectors, grab bars, handrails, raised toilets and nightlights. It also replaces aging batteries and provides flashlights and grab sticks.

“The department is eager to serve you and your family,” said Chief Mike D’Orazi. If you are an Alameda resident call Ruth Ann Crawford at 337-2133 to see if you or your loved one qualifies.
