HOME NEWS OUR HISTORY The Research Center for Sustainable Development in Industry and Energy CIDES (before 2006 Center for Process Simulation and Control CISYC) was founded in 1988 by professors: Leonardo Acevedo Duarte, Mario Alvares Cifuentes, Crisóstomo Barrajas Ferreira, Pedro Ferrada del Busto, and Carmelo Fuentes Lozano, the first research center of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS), recognized by the Superior Council in 1992, is one of the pillars of the first doctoral programs and master's degree in chemical engineering in Colombia. Since 2002 professor D.Sc. Viatcheslav Kafarov is Director of the Center. The center graduated the first doctors in engineering in the country, including Dr. Edgar Castillo, Dr. Manuel Nunez, Dr. Alirio Acuña, Dr. Favio Jimenez, and recently Dr.Yovanni Morales, Dr. Karina Ojeda, Dr. Liliana Hernandez, Dr. Paola Acevedo, Dr. Eduardo Sanchez. In total CIDES supported the formation of 18 Ph.D. and XXXXX master students and hundreds of chemical engineers. Nowadays the Research center has 11 Ph.D. students, 15 master and about 50 undergraduate students. In the last five years obtained 26 articles in international journals of high scientific prestige. The Center has worked with main companies and research centers in the country, including ECOPETROL, ICP-Ecopetrol, CENICAÑA, CENIPALMA, and exterior companies DOW Chemical,
