PacketShaper®WAN Application Performance Solutions

Applications are the lifeblood of your enterprise. If they slow down, so does business.

It’s time your network infrastructure worked for you.

Designed for the distributed enterprise by Packeteer®, the industry leader in WAN

optimization, PacketShaper appliances solve the problem of poor and unpredictable

application performance. Unlike general-purpose point products with limited functionality,

PacketShapers deliver what really matters to IT and network managers: application

performance, network integrity and a quality user experience at every location.

More than ever before, your enterprise depends on a fast WAN and fast applications

for a faster business.

PacketShaperWAN Application Performance Solutions

Application-Fluent Visibility and Monitoring

Before you can optimize application performance, you need an accurate picture of network traffi c. PacketShaper provides complete visibility into 500+ applications, monitoring and classifying traffic based on Layer 7 application knowledge, as well as traditional Layer 2 - 4 information.

With fl uency in application traffi c, PacketShaper delivers deep-packet inspection and monitors application flows and behavior. Identifying applications regardless of port, PacketShaper makes it easy for you to prioritize the business-critical applications — like Citrix, Oracle, VoIP, SAP, file transfers, email, and others — that drive your business.

Integrated transparently into your network, PacketShaper delivers the information you need to quickly identify and diagnose network issues.

• Audit utilization and performance by links, users or applications (such as business-critical, recreational and malicious-traffic types)

• Track application response times, isolate performance issues and identify server- or network-related issues

• Monitor service-level agreements for critical applications or links

• Access performance diagnostics that include connection profiling and server responses (TCP Health), PacketCapture, traffic forensic history and more to complement existing security infrastructure

Monitor over 500 applications with Layer 7 network visibility

Shape traffi c in real-time with fl exible policy-based control

Accelerate and compress applications for maximum throughput

Control multi-unit PacketShaper deployments with centralized management and reporting

PacketShaper is the only all-in-one solution that extends application visibility, control, compression and centralized reporting and management capabilities to the edge of the distributed enterprise.

Traffic Shaping Guarantees Application Performance

Guarantee bandwidth availability for the applications that drive your business. Flexible policy-based control enables you to shape traffic and ensure that latency-sensitive, business-critical applications get the bandwidth they need to perform at their peak, while non-critical traffic gets relegated to the available remaining bandwidth.

With flexible parameters such as priority, minimum and maximum bandwidth and per-session guarantees, PacketShaper ensures Quality of Service (QoS) for business-critical applications.

• Fix critical application performance issues by allocating bandwidth appropriately

• Stop the cycle of bandwidth upgrades and streamline the network by controlling recreational and malicious traffic

• Minimize network congestion, traffic latency and application response times between remote locations

“Packeteer really helped us

to pick things up that no

one really expected to see.

Our business units assured

us there were no real ‘rogue’

applications in use, but

when we showed them the

application performance

analysis results, they could

see with their own eyes that

unapproved applications

were being used.”

Application Acceleration and Compression

SkyX® acceleration maximizes application throughput across your network infrastructure. By accelerating Web applications and transaction response times, SkyX acceleration increases the amount of data that can be carried over the WAN. When you need additional speed for time-sensitive transactions or large file transfers, acceleration overcomes WAN latency issues to provide peak network performance.

• Minimize latency and boost Web-based application performance

• Accelerate TCP over high-latency links (such as satellite)

• Optimize WAN application performance and link utilization

• Accelerate large flows and file transfers

The PacketShaper compression module improves application performance and response times. PacketShaper compression uses the compression algorithm best suited to individual applications to reduce bandwidth usage and minimize WAN latency.

• Increase WAN capacity over the same physical links

• Improve application performance and responsiveness

• Ensure that critical applications receive increased capacity

Centralized Visibility and Performance Reporting

ReportCenter™ simplifi es enterprise-wide performance management with centralized visibility and insight into network applications and their performance. By leveraging the capabilities of every PacketShaper in the network, ReportCenter provides a consolidated, measurable view of the information required to manage service level agreements, perform capacity planning and troubleshoot network issues with powerful Flow Detail Records (FDR) capabilities.

• Manage multi-unit PacketShaper networks and view enterprise-wide reports through a consolidated, comprehensive interface

• Identify emerging network trends

• Establish and track progress against performance goals

• Accelerate troubleshooting and response times

• Lower administration effort and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO)

Note: Not all capacity specifications can be maximized simultaneously.

PacketShaper can support more hosts and flows; these figures represent ideal maximums for producing optimal results; numbers are rounded up or down to the nearest thousand. These maximumsrepresent concurrent flows. Performance may vary due to the number of new flows, traffic type, traffic mix and other conditions unique to each deployment.

No extra partitions are specifically allocated for dynamic partitions. The 1200 and 1550 have a pool of partitions to be shared between static and dynamic partitions.

Refers to post-compressed traffic rates - maximum compressed throughput specifications for PacketShaper are lower when compression is enabled due to the extra processing power required to compress traffic.
