OUR ROLE IN CHANGING THE PACIFIC

Our Role

Policy:

• Promote Smoke Free Air & other Tobacco Control Legislation (i.e. betel nut, Clean Indoor Air Laws, etc.)

Education:

• Provide publication opportunities for PJ programs (i.e. Pacific Tobacco Control & Prevention Monograph)

Training:

• Provide Basic Tobacco Intervention (BTI) & Advance Tobacco Training for adults/providers

Direct Service:

• Provide & Certify Advanced Tobacco Cessation Counselors

Pacific Partners for Tobacco Free Islands

Our Contribution

Education:

• Developed youth & adult forums within schools & community to provide education & awareness

Policy:

• At least three USAPI have tobacco tax rates of at least $2.75 – only 7 U.S. states have higher taxes. Palau will go from $3.00 to $4.00 as of January 1, 2015.

Training:

• Collaborated with local chiefs of most PJ’s such as Council of Chiefs in Palau, Chiefs in American Samoa & Faith Based Leaders (Catholic, Protestants, etc.)
