Put YOUR mask on first….

You have to take care of yourselves before you can take care of oth-ers. How true is this sentence? Even when you fly, the first instruc-tions to you before the plane takes off is “if oxygen is needed, put your mask on first before assisting others”.. Why you ask? Because you will be no good to the person you are assisting if you are short on oxygen and pass out. This issue, we are highlighting Sam Gib‐son who works at the Cleveland Clinic Or‐thopaedic  Rehabilitation and Telemedi‐cine facility located in Canfield, OH serving the Youngstown area.

Sam has been a PA for 32 years mostly in Pennsylvania, starting his career as a Medic in the U.S. Army and then entering the PA Program at Penn State.  Sam has worked in many specialties over the years, such as, General and Vascular Surgery and Emergency Medicine but  has 30 years ex‐perience in Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine and Occupational Medicine.

This makes him ideal for his role in the new Orthopaedic Telemedicine facility act‐ing  as the liaison between the surgeon and patient.  The surgeon in Cleveland ex‐amines the patient via video facilitated by Sam who is on site with the patient.  Sam and a physical therapist are available for

appointments five days a week while the orthopedic specialist is avail‐able one day a week for patient appointments.  Go to the following link:

ttp://www.wfmj.com/global/category.asp?c=179433&clipId=4898477&topVideoCatNo=127724&autoStart=true

to view a video of an actual patient appoint‐ment with Sam facilitating the exam.

Sam has done his part to promote the PA profession by mentoring Gannon University PA students, speaking at high schools and other organizations.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, cycling, playing rac‐quetball and is a big Buckeye fan.

He also is an inventor and has designed a number of inventions with three patents.

Being from out of state and hired only a year ago, Sam says his overall experience at the Cleveland Clinic has been excellent and great working with the physicians and fellows as well as all other department personnel.

THE INVITATION Oriah Mountain Dreamer

IT DOESN’T INTEREST ME WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING.  I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.  I want to know if you will risk look‐ing like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon.  I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain.  I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes with‐out cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of be‐ing human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true.  I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty, even when it’s not pretty, every day, and if you can source your own life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes!”

It doesn’t’ interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.  I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

I doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here.  I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.  I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.
