P7 RERC 2-15a I can recognise Mary's significance within the Catholic Tradition and I know that celebrating her feast days and praying to God through Mary can enrich my life.
I can list, and I am beginning to understand, the significance of the major feast days of Mary celebrated
in the Catholic Church:
1st January - Mother of God 11th February - Our Lady of Lourdes
25th March – Annunciation 31st May- The Visitation
15th August - The Assumption of Mary 8th September - Our Lady’s birthday
7th October - Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary 8th December - Immaculate Conception
Mary, Our Lady is often
portrayed reading the scriptures,
as she was so open to hearing
and bearing the Word of God.
P7 RERC 2-15a ( contd) I know that the feast day of the Assumption of Our Lady is celebrated on 15th August as a Holiday of Obligation and I understand that we honour Mary’s assumption (being taken up) body and soul into Heaven, at the end of her life on earth. I know why Mary is honoured as the model of all Christians and I can pray to God as Mary prayed using the words of the Magnificat. I can recognise some icons and images of Mary and identify the symbols therein (e.g. Mother of God, Our Lady of Lourdes, The Annunciation, The Visitation, Our Lady’s Birthday, Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of Czestochowa, Our Lady of Fatima)
15th August – The Feast Day of The Assumption of Mary
8th September – The Feast of Our Lady’s birthday
St Anne and St Joachim, in Catholic Tradition are celebrated as the parents of Our Lady, Mary, the Mother of God.
7th October - Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary
Traditionally, The Rosary, was given by
Our Lady to St Dominic.
Pray the Rosary,
especially in October, Advent
And May, the traditional
months of devotion to
Our Blessed Mother.
8th December – Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception
The Immaculate Conception is a feast day when we celebrate
The fact that Mary, Mother of God, was conceived without stain
of original sin.
The conception of Jesus, Son of God,
truly human and truly divine is celebrated
At the Annunciation.
1st January - Feast Day of Mary, Mother of God
This image prefigures, Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the the world.
Mary, Mother of the Church
The phrase used for the protection of
Mary, Mother of the Church, is to be kept safe,
Under Our Lady’s Mantle.
Design your own icon of our lady, perhaps including
Pictures of your own family and friends,
cherished under the mantle.

31st May- The Feast Day of The Visitation
