P4Subject-based

BandingNURTURING EVERY CHILD

Page 21: P3 & 4 meet the parents slides

What Subject-based Banding means for your child

• Every child will be encouraged to do the subjects at the levels that best meet his abilities

• Removal of streams in Primary 5 and 6

Page 22: P3 & 4 meet the parents slides

Why introduce Subject-based Banding?• To provide more flexibility to pupils

with strengths and abilities that vary across subjects

• To encourage greater interaction among pupils with different strengths

Page 23: P3 & 4 meet the parents slides

Why introduce Subject-based Banding?

“ We recognise different abilities... and help each student to proceed at a pace that he can manage.”

Mr Tharman ShanmugaratnamFormer Minister for Education

Supported Reading

2. Shared Writing

Experiences

3. Language Use Activities in Learning Centres

-Sustained Silent Reading

- Supported Reading

- Follow up activities

The teacher prepares mini lessons based on specific needs of children to prepare them for reading & writing activities; e.g. grammar, vocabulary, word recognition, decoding skills, spelling

The teacher models writing using children’s language. Children engage in writing together and in writing independently
