Sending Referrals (To Specialist)
1. Click … next to Provider
3. Select provider. Click OK.
2. Select P2P Providers

4. Type brief REASON FOR REFERRAL. Do NOT exceed visible area as this is what referring provider sees when the referral is opened. Note if you want specialist to schedule patient’s appointment.
5. If more clinical detail
is needed than what is
included in referral HPI
and Reason for Referral
line: Click on Notes tab,
then type more
information in Clinical
Notes.

Shows number of attachments
6. Click on Attachments
button.
Select attachments: labs/
x-rays/ progress note.
Check “Attach CCD/CCR”
box.
CCD/CCR: Clinical Care
Document/Record
If sending Progress Notes,
uncheck “Attach Medical
Summary “as it includes
the same information and
is a large amount of
information for the
referring provider to read.

Send Referral button
will turn green if sent.
Can also confirm sent
by going to R jelly bean
and checking outgoing
referrals.
CCR: The CCR will not
transmit successfully
unless the medication list,
allergy list, and problem
list are verified prior to
sending the referral.

Receiving Referrals
1. To access Incoming Referrals, click
the letter “R” next the R jelly bean.
Once you open the
referral, you can match to
an existing patient or
register a new patient.
You will be prompted to save incoming referral documents into the
Patient Documents area. They will be automatically filed into the
“ECW P2P Documents” folder. They can easily be re-filed by
dragging and dropping into a different folder.

Adding Referring Provider’s Structured Medical Data to Your EMR
2. Click DRTLA tab
When the patient arrives for the
appointment, the provider can view and
optionally import the structured data
elements by clicking on the DRTLA tab,
then CCR link.
Note: This can potentially save a lot of
time as the provider does not need to
re-enter these data elements.

5. Click on blue arrows to pull over desired date
into patient record

1. From Progress Note, click on SEND button
4. Select P2P provider
2. Check box. Defaults to Fax; click on Fax and select eTransmit

6. Receive confirmation.

1. Click “Send eCW P2P
Patient Record”
2. Select Patient by clicking on “…”
3. Select Provider by clicking on “…”
4. Type Subject
5. Type a message or use the “…” next to
Message: to use a customized message.

Messaging To send a message to another provider within the P2P network:
Note: attachments can’t be added to messages; use “Send the eCW P2P Patient Record” option instead. Also, messages sent through this method do not become a part of the patient’s record. Instead, send a referral or outgoing patient record to send records that can be attached to a patient’s chart.
1. From M jelly bean, click “Create eCW P2P Message”.
2. Click “…”
3. Select provider from Address Book
4. Click OK
5. Type Subject
6. Type a message or use the “…” next to
Message: to use a customized message.
7. Click to Send
Only use Messaging AFTER
asking provider if OK to
communicate via P2P
Messaging.
