The system uses the exchange rate stored in exchange rate type M for converting the currency when posting and clearing documents. There must be an entry in the system for this exchange rate type. The exchange rate is valid for all company codes.

If you do not enter an exchange rate in a purchase order, the system automatically uses the current exchange rate for exchange rate type “M”.

Units of Measurement and Conversion Using SIUnits

Dimension Ae.g. length

Unit of measurement 2centimeter

Conversion toSI units

1:1

Conversion toSI unit1:100

You can use dimensions to facilitate conversions between different units of measurement.

A unique SI unit is defined for each dimension.

SI = Système International des Unités (international system of units).

This is a system of internationally standardized units, which can be reduced to seven base units.

In addition to the internal key for a unit of measurement, there are two language-dependent external keys (with corresponding descriptions). You must not change the internal key for the units of measurement supplied in the standard system.

The maintenance of factors for conversion into the SI unit of the relevant dimension for units of measurement with the same dimension allows the system to carry out all conversions between these units of measurement.

In the standard system, the entry AAAADL is predefined in the field Dimension for non-dimensional units of measurement.

Before you can use a unit of measurement, for example, in purchasing transactions you must flag it as a commercial unit.

Factory calendars are used in several functional areas (lead time scheduling, capacity planning, MRP, sales and distribution).

The factory calendar specifies whether or not each calendar day counts as a working day.

Factory calendars are generated in various steps and can be assigned to the plant or to individual facilities.

You can make allowance for company holidays and suchlike in a factory calendar by using special rules.

The calendars are stored in a main memory buffer for the entire validity period (R/3 System parameter for buffer size: ‘zcsa/calendar_area’).

You no longer need to activate the calendar.

Caution! Calendars are client-independent.

The system automatically generates change documents when you make changes to the calendar.

There is automatic synchronization when work is distributed among several application servers.

User Master Records

User category:

Dialog BDC BATCH CPIC

User master record

User name and password

Profiles,authorizations

Values for variable parameter IDs

User address

User defaults User menu

Logon data

Task profiles

You create a user master record for each user.

You maintain user master records by choosing Tools -> Administration -> User maintenance -> Users.

The system differentiates between the following user types: Dialog, BDC, Background, CPIC.

The user master record contains various elements.

Changes to user master records are only effective as of the next time that the user logs on to the system.

By locking or unlocking, you can give a user access to the system or deny a user access. Locking or unlocking is effective as of the next time that the user logs on to the system.

Furthermore you have the option of changing passwords, deleting user master records or making mass changes.

Authorization 1

Authorization 2

Each user requires authorizations, depending on the job he or she has to do.These authorizations control which activities the user can carry out in the R/3 System.

Authorizations are defined for authorization objects that are predefined by SAP.

You can define as many authorizations as you wish for each authorization object. An authorization is a combination of allowed values for the fields of an authorization object.

You define values for certain field in an authorization object.

You can assign activities for the objects, such as: 01 create, 02 change/maintain, 03 display, 06 delete and so on.

Authorizations and their objects are grouped into object classes in the system (for example, object class “production planning”).

Authorizations that cover a limited task area can be grouped to form a profile (individual profile). Individual profiles can be grouped to form collective profiles.

A profile contains one or more authorizations.

Profiles for various tasks in the Logistics applications are supplied with the system.

Staff responsible for Customizing need authorizations for authorization object S_TABU_DIS (authorization group 17 is required).

Settings: Summary

You know which settings for countries and currencies arenecessary for Logistics.

You can create self-defined units to supplement the units ofmeasurement supplied.

The assignment of units of measurement to dimensionsfacilitates conversion between units.

Factory calendars make use of public holiday calendars, which represent a list of valid public holidays. The factorycalendars used in MM are assigned to the various plants.

You can define the structure of user master records and getan overview of individual authorizations in MaterialsManagement.
