ANN PHELAN, TD-“TRAFFIC LIGHTS IN MAIN STREET”A number of people have been in contact with my office in relation to the length of time they were left waiting for the traffic lights to change colour in the Main Street. Drivers should be aware that they need to drive up to the STOP line, as this is the only way the sensors set within the roadway are activated. If they leave a gap of several metres to the STOP line then they may not pass over the sensors and trigger the demand for the lights. This means they will be left waiting longer than they need to before getting a green light to proceed. If you require any information, or have any queries in relation to this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact me or my office on 056 7756000/ 086 3294420. I also have my Advice Clinic, this Saturday at 11am in the Boathouse, Graig should you wish to meet with me. Kind regards, Ann Phelan, T.D,

John O Neill R.I.P.John O'Neill, was born in Graiguenamanagh, on the 6th February 1923, where during his childhood lived at number 13 Mill Road, with his parents Paddy and Kate O'Neill (nee Bolger) and brother and sisters Martin (Sonny), Patsy, Bridie and Nelly.

Dad as a young man worked at the Corn Mill and this is where he was first introduced by Mrs Cushen to his wife to be Elizabeth (nee Dwyer) who was from the local nearby village of Bagenalstown, Carlow, but worked in a shop in Graiguenamanagh village.

Dad and Mum had many happy memories in Graiguenamanagh, where they spent their courting days in Ballyogan and at Joyce's Dance Hall where Dad sang in a  local band. Mums Favourite songs were, Danny Boy, Take me home again Kathleen and The Old Rugged Cross.

John left the family home in Graiguenamanagh, at the age of 25 and moved to London, England, where he married his childhood sweetheart, Elizabeth and they went on to have 4 Children, Patrick, Mary, Audrey and Elisha, 9 grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren.

Dad always spoke very fondly of his childhood in Graiguenamanagh and often spoke of returning home one day however many grandchildren later this was never meant to be.

Unfortunately Dad Sadly Passed away peacefully at home in Leeds, Yorkshire, England on July 6th 2015, aged 92 year and will now be reunited with his Dearly beloved wife Elizabeth in heaven after 3 years of being apart.

Dad will be sadly missed by his much loved children Patrick, Mary, Audrey and Elisha, adored grandad of Sharon, Michelle, Leanne, Heather, Richard, Jovy, Irene, Racquel, and David. A much loved great grandad of Georgia, Harry, Rose, Maegan, Ethan, Jordan, Danielle, and Ben.

God Bless and Rest in peace Dad, gone but never forgotten as you will always live on in our hearts

.

Listings info:Venue: The Duiske Inn, GraiguenamanaghDates: Show runs 24th & 25th of July at 8pm nightlyDuration: 90 minutes with intervalTickets: €10

‘Lie. Cheat. Steal. Graduate.’

The Union is a furiously funny dramatic retelling of the rise and fall of St. Dominic’s Student Union. The play takes place in the final days of the current student union regime in a failing regional college. Five erstwhile colleagues are locked in one room knowing that one of them stole the €10,060 fundraised cash that their reputations, hopes, dreams, careers and election campaigns are hinged on. Backs will be stabbed, hearts will be broke and throats will be cut. The clock is ticking. We’re going to see how united this Union really is.

Adrian Kavanagh’s first play for Devious Theatre will debut in his hometown of Graiguenamanagh on July 24th and 25th. The show opens in The Duiske Inn for two nights before playing in Cleeres Theatre, Kilkenny from July 29th to August 1st. This brand new comedy was tipped by BroadwayWorld.com as one of the top theatre picks in Ireland this summer.

The Devious Theatre Company have been described as:

“making large strides in providing intriguing, quirky and funny theatre” – The Public Reviews

“committed, passionate and fantastic at what they do, bringing the very best of young, creative Irish theatre to their audiences” – Yay.ie

“impressive… with brash confidence, excellent actors and technicians” – Munster Express

For more information, images or press tickets please contact:

- Ken McGuire, Producer, Devious Theatre, +353 061048191 / [email protected]

About the writer:

Adrian is a writer, actor and director. He is the founding member and director of Spark Productions, a theatre company based in Graiguenamanagh, County Kilkenny. His previous plays include The Last Of The Freshers and Bittersweet Graffiti for Spark Productions, both of which played in Kilkenny and Waterford. His last play Big City Lights received a rehearsed reading in Red Kettle Theatre Company in Waterford. Directing credits for Spark Productions include Brownbread by Roddy Doyle, Danti-Dan by Gina Moxley and the Irish stage premiere of Bunny by Jack Thorne. Radio work includes Johnny’s New Hat as part of Word Play on KCLR96FM. He is currently a One Young World ambassador. Acting work for Devious Theatre includes Shifting and Night Of The Living Dead.

About The Devious Theatre Company:

Devious Theatre were founded in Kilkenny in 2006. We perform different works in different spaces for different audiences using different methods. Our work hops genre but stays rooted in a style of comedy we have honed over the years. We don’t like labels. Thus, our artistic credo is mostly ADHD based and fairly guerrilla. To this end, our goal is to kidnap as many young people away from gigs and cinemas and pubs and drag them to the theatre. We have performed 19 shows to date, have won a PPI Award for Radio Drama and have had our work featured at Cork Midsummer Festival, Dublin Fringe Festival, Galway Theatre Festival, Electric Picnic, Abhainn Rí Festival, Quarter, Collaborations Festival, Cavan Theatre Festival and The Theatre Machine Turns You On amongst others. They have toured work to County Kilkenny since 2012 previously bringing shows to Callan and Thomastown.
