Presidents Trumpet July 2020

I certainly appears we are in this together for the long-haul. A resurgence of COVID-19 cases here in Texas has resulted in valid repeals of many of the social contact safe-guard restrictions, which in early June were being relaxed and presently continue to affect our ability to meet as a group at our traditional monthly club luncheon. No worries, for July 2020, we will continue to rely upon virtual technology in support of our monthly club meeting activity.

We have been informed by the folks at the Heights Baptist Church (Richardson, TX), of their plan to host a Food Drive Cruise-In from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 11, 2020. Sounds to me like an excellent opportunity for us to exercise our Oldsmobile’s while participating in this worthy cause. An email regarding this event has been distributed by the Heights’ Baptist Church event organizer to NTOC mem-bers that have previously participated in their annual car show event and Lois has forwarded same to our email distribution list as well.

Additionally, we have also learned the State Fair of Texas (October 2020) has been cancelled. So, no Car Corral participation by the NTOC this year; we will look forward to visiting “Big Tex” in 2021.

Please continue to stay safe and healthy and remember “There is a special feel in an Oldsmobile”.

HELPING HANDS NEEDS YOU!Greetings to all NTOC members. Last Sunday we held our first ever virtual club meeting via ZOOM which went very well. You should give it a try if COVID-19 continues to restrict our in-person activities. However, one thing that was still missing from the virtual meeting was our 50/50 drawing to support our Helping Hands Fund. We all know how beneficial our donations are each year to those less fortunate and this Christmas should be no exception. Please think about how much you would normally spend on the 50/50 drawing each month over the course of a year and consider sending at least that amount to the club address as a donation to the Helping Hands Fund. Every little bit helps!!! Lawrence Dagate, NTOC - VP.

June 2020 Monthly Meeting Minutes

June 7, 2020 - Through the generous offer from Javier and Denise Camba the officers of NTOC held an Officer’s Meeting on June 7, 2020 using ZOOM. All NTOC officers and Javier Camba participated in a trial run of a ZOOM to determine if it would be possible to hold a general NTOC meeting for all members who could access ZOOM, either on their computer or cell phone, or both. After having success with all officers participating it was decided that a ZOOM NTOC general monthly meeting could be scheduled for June 14, 2020 at 2:00.

June 14, 2020 - President Kendall Workman called the meeting to order at 2:00 with an initial group of about 8 members and another 8 or so joining later. Total ZOOM Video attendance was around 20 members. Kendall led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and welcomed everyone to the June meeting. Angie and Bryan Lacy joined from Oklahoma and said they were glad they had an opportunity to participate through ZOOM.

Try to set aside some time for the July 12 meeting at 2:00 on ZOOM. Hints for using ZOOM:

A.1. Download ZOOM APP on your cell phone.2. Click on Join A Meeting3. Log on to ZOOM meeting using the Meeting IDS and Password through the

ZOOM APP 4. Click Join Audio portion (This will allow you to be seen and enter conversations

through the phone connection)5. Use your phone camera for video

B. Use the link provided in email to log on to ZOOM meeting through your computer. (If you have camera, speakers, and microphone you should be able to see every-thing and participate through your computer.

C. If you don’t have camera, speakers, or microphone on your computer you can sign in on the computer through the link in the email and log on to the ZOOM phone APP which will allow you to see everything on your computer screen and commu-nicate during the meeting.

NOTICE: Use only one active (1) microphone/speaker set-up. Using more than one causes unwanted static/feedback during the meeting.

For Sale/WantedTreasurer’s Report Glenn Hargrove has reported to the club officers that the club is financially sound. Glenn mentioned that there is a balance of $795.00 in the Helping Hands Fund.

A proposal was made by Glenn that we provide an opportunity for NTOC members to contribute to our Helping Hands fund during the period we are not meeting in person. Options discussed included a Go-Fund-Me Account to be set up to collect money that would be distributed to charities selected by the NTOC membership at the end of the year. Members could contribute to the account through-out the year as they want to.

A Venmo account that would be set up to collect contributions to the Helping Hands Fund where contributions would be placed in a Venmo account and only the NTOC Treasurer and any other authorized officer could transfer funds from the Venmo ac-count to the NTOC bank account. There could be an added benefit for the Ven-mo account as this could also be used for new and renewal membership payments. (We have had requests to find a way to eliminate paying for memberships by personal check.)

The decision was to do some additional investigation into both options and report back to the membership to see if there is approval for either option.

Club Spirit Items

Caps and VisorsThe new NTOC Club caps and NTOC visors are still available. Cap price is $15.00 and visors are $12.00. Caps are available in a variety of colors, red, white, and charcoal. Harat reported that all but one (1) of the Royal Blue caps have been sold. Visors are available in red, royal blue and white. The caps have the NTOC logo, but the artwork was too large for the visors so they were embroidered with an Oldsmobile logo, a Texas flag, and the letters NTOC

Contact Harat Manges if you are interested in getting either a cap or a visor.

Club Logo Decals Lois ordered the two types of NTOC Club Logo decals and they have been received. Both decals are now available from Harat. The two types are: 1) die cut, back adhe-sive stickers and front adhesive decals. The decals are available to be purchased for $1.00 each. New members will receive a club logo decal as part of the welcome letter.

Denim Shirts with Club Logo This has been put on hold until the club starts to meet again.
