Dear Families,

All schools will be closed Friday and Monday. School will

resume after the holiday weekend on Tuesday, September

6th.

There are MANY activities happening around campus next

week.

PICTURES- On Tuesday, the four middle school classes

who did not have their fall pictures taken will be

scheduled to take their pictures.

OPEN HOUSE– Middle School Open House will be

Tuesday from 6-8pm. Grades 3-5 Open House will be on

Thursday from 5:30-6:30pm.

Volleyball- Boys will have their rescheduled tryouts on Tuesday from 3-5 pm. Girls will have practice from 3-5 pm.

Grade Talent Search

Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP) is conducting a 7th grade talent

search. The program is designed to help families determine how advanced their students' academic abilities are and what level of educational challenge is appropriate. As part of the talent search enrollment, students will take the SAT or ACT as an above-level test. This allows students to have greater insight into their abilities and gives them a chance to preview a college entrance exam. Duke TIP also provides enrichment resources designed specifically for academically talented youth.

Eligibility:

The student must be in the 7th grade.

The student must meet one of the following test score requirements:

2015 FSA 5th Grade: ELA ≥ 95

th percentile, Math ≥ 95

th percentile

2015 FCAT 2.0 5th Grade: Science ≥ 235

2016 FSA 6th Grade: ELA ≥ 361, Math ≥ 361

Score a minimum of 125 on an approved IQ test within the past two years.

Lifelong Learning 2016! with

St. Johns County Community Education St. Johns County Community Education is now offering new classes that will begin in September. A variety of classes and locations are available. Our own Katie Aid will be teaching a cooking class. It will run for 4 weeks, 1 day a week for 2 hours. Bicycle Safety

If your child rides a bicycle to or from school, Florida law requires that he/she wear a helmet

(s 316.2065) Please talk with your child about following bike safety rules and procedures.

Remember, wearing a helmet isn’t just a school rule, it’s the law!

Bicyclist must ride as far to the right as possible

Walk your bike across intersection.

Look both ways before crossing the street

ATTENDANCE: What Parent’s Should Know

A tardy or early dismissal count against a student’s perfect attend-ance. The cutoff time for students to be counted present for the day is 11:00 am ONLY handwritten notes will be accepted for absences. Please make sure that students first and last name appear on the note as well as the reason for the absence. If the student is absent three or more days, a doctor’s note is required for the absence to be excused. Please refer to the Student Code of Conduct for any other questions you may have about attendance.

Support POA Athletics!

As the school year is well underway, it is time for our annual POA Athletics Fundraiser. We are searching for anyone in our

community interested in helping us fundraise for our athletic program, by advertising for a personal or local business.

How it works: Around our Gymnasium we cover sound-proof wall tiles with large advertising boards.

What you get: A personal 4’ x 4’ board to advertise your business on our gymnasium wall for all POA athletic events, and a

spot on the back of warm-up jerseys with your business logo.

Cost: $250 for the entire year, and only $200 for any year after that you choose to renew

TOWN HALL MEETING

A Town Hall meeting is scheduled to discuss potential Attendance Zoning changes for the new Elementary School currently under construction and planned to open for the 2017-2018 School Year. Elementary School M is located at 2675 Pacetti Road, St. Augustine, FL, 32092 and is being constructed using monies from the half-cent sales tax passed in No-vember 2015.

The meeting will take place at Pacetti

Bay Middle School, located at 245

Meadowlark Lane, on Monday, Sep-

tember 12 at 6 p.m.

A proposed zoning plan will be re-

leased at the Town Hall meeting,

along with an opportunity for the pub-

lic to provide comment. School Board

members and district staff will be in

attendance.

At this time, the proposal impacts the

current attendance zones of Mill

Creek Elementary, Wards Creek Ele-

mentary, Palencia Elementary School

in the vicinity of International Golf

Parkway and The Webster School in

the area of SR 16 and CR 208.
