We are on the threshold of some very significant

changes in our district. This school year we

have laid the foundation for short term and long

term success for our students.

This month the Board of Education approved the

bids for our two major construction projects, the

renovations at Woodbridge Middle School and a

new Ross St. School #11. This multi-million

dollar undertaking is part of the referendum

passed last year. Groundbreaking on both

projects is expected in the next few months.

Both projects have an anticipated completion

date of September 2020.

Another initiative we are excited about is full-

day kindergarten. Kindergarten students in

Woodbridge have always attended only half-day

sessions. Starting in September 2018,

kindergarten students will attend school full day.

Full-day kindergarten is only possible because of

the acquisition of the former St. Cecelia’s

School in Iselin. In September 2018, we will

enter into a lease that will allow us to open Oak

Tree Rd School #29 (formerly St. Cecelia’s).

Students and staff from Kennedy Park (right

down the street) will move into School #29.

Kennedy Park will be used for overflow

kindergarten sections.

Another project we’re excited about is our

improvements in technology. We included some

technology infrastructure upgrades in the

construction referendum, including installing

internet access points in every classroom. An

access point is like an antenna that a wireless

device, such as an iPad, can use to connect to the

internet. Since access points have a limit to how

many devices can use them, more access points

in schools allow for more internet accessibility

for more devices. We are doing this project in

three phases; the middle schools are completed,

the high schools will begin soon, and the

elementary schools will be the final phase.

One of the reasons we have access points in

every classroom is our commitment to digital

curriculum. This year we implemented a 1:1

iPad initiative in grade eight—every eighth

grader received their own personal iPad. In

addition, the eighth grade science and math

curricula were re-written on a digital platform.

We will be expanding this connect next year to

grades 9-12. Each high school student will

receive their own chromebook, and we will

begin to transform our high school curriculum to

a digital platform.

As always, we want to provide our students with

the very best facilities for extracurricular

activities. We are able to accomplish this with

our unprecedented relationship with the

Township and Mayor McCormac. The big

projects this year include replacing the

Woodbridge HS football field turf, replacing the

wall padding in the Woodbridge HS gym,

adding bleachers at the Colonia HS baseball

field, and improvements to the Colonia HS

greenhouse.

One of our first events on the new turf at

Woodbridge HS will be the Snapple Bowl. The

Snapple Bowl is an annual all-star football game

between the best players from Middlesex

County against the best players from Union

County. The game serves as a fundraiser for

charities in both Middlesex and Union Counties.

We are proud to host this event on July 19, 2018

on the new Woodbridge HS turf.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.

Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions

drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.
