Use this cycle to get 4 to 18 minutesof extra-slow speed agitation for sheerfabrics and lingerie. The agitation isfollowed by a deep rinse and a slowspin speed. The preset wash time for thiscycle is 6 minutes.

ULTRA HANDWASHUse this cycle for garments labeled"Hand Wash" and special care items.Gentle cleaning starts with a continuousspray of water and detergent mixture asthe load is spun at low speed. This lastsfor about one minute. The washer thenfills to the selected water level. The washaction is similar to the way you wouldhand wash garments in the sink. It doesthis with periods of extra-slow agitationand soaking. Select 4 to 18 minutes ofwash agitation time. Slow spin speedshelp reduce wrinkling. The preset washtime for this cycle is 4 minutes.

Garments are labeled "Hand Wash"because:

• The fiber construction may be sensitiveto agitation.

• The fabric contains sensitive dyes thatmay bleed.

NOTE: Some "Hand Wash" items, particularly wool, naturally shrink whenwashed. Keep this in mind when youpurchase items labeled "Hand Wash."Items that shrink should be dried flat. When still wet, block these items bygently stretching to original measure-ments. Do not use ULTRA HANDWASHfor large items like blankets.

Temperature Suggested Fabrics Comments

HOT • Work clothes • Best cleaning for heavily soiIed items111°F (44°C) • Sturdy whites/ • Removes oils, perspiration, greasy soilsor above cotorfast pastels and stains

• Diapers • Prevents graying or yellowing

WARM • Dark/non-colorfast colors • Best for moderately soiled to lightly soiled items90°-110°F • Permanent press items • Safe for most fabric finishes(32°-43°C) • Nylon, polyester, acrylics, • Less fading and dye bleeding

silks, woolens • Reduces wrinkling• Knits/delicate fabrics

* In wash water temperatures colder than 70°F (21°C), detergents do not dissolve well. Also, soils may be difficult to remove and some fabrics may retain wear wrinkles and have increasedpilling - the formation of small lint-like bails on the surface of garments. Pilling is the naturairesult of wearing and washing of garments.

Lint is filtered from the loadautomatically - there's no messycleanup.

Your washer features a self-cleaningfilter that traps lint from the water whilethe washer is washing and deep rinsingthe laundry. The trapped lint is flusheddown the drain automatically. You don'thave to clean the filter.

ULTRA QUIET PAK TM

The ULTRA QUIET PAK TM System isdesigned to reduce water sounds andringing noises. The cabinet and baseare insulated with sound-dampeningmaterials over which an additional tub

wrap is added for superior vibration andsound-dampening characteristics. Asound-absorbing blanket under themotor and gearcase also helps toinsulate the washer to reduce vibrationnoise.

Kenmore's exclusive TOTAL CARE TM

Agitator has triple action agitation togive you the most flexible fabric carefor even your largest loads.

The agitator moves in three directions, depending on load size, toensure proper cleaning. Thebest cleaning action in your _r%_[_washer takes place at the _bottom where the agitator ____vanes move back and forth _-=%_:_

33

UNDERSTANDING NORMALWASHER SOUNDS

Your new washer may make soundsthat your old one did not. Because thesounds are unfamiliar, you may beconcerned about them.

The following describes some of thenormal sounds you may hear and whatcauses them.

During WashingWhen you select a small load size settingfor a small wash load, your washer has alower water level. With this lower waterlevel, you may hear a clicking sound fromthe upper portion of the agitator. If youselect CATALYST TM, you will hear aspin/spray noise at the start of the cycle.

During DrainThe rate that water is drained from yourwasher depends on your installation. Ifwater is drained quickly from the washer, you may hear air being pulled throughthe pump. This happens during the endof draining.

After Drain and Before SpinWhen the cycle changes from drainingto spinning, you may hear a noise as thegearcase shifts.

When Selecting a Cycle, Option,or Modifier

• A single tone will sound whenever aselection is accepted by the program.

• Three short tones will sound if anunavailable selection is made.

• The sound level of the selection tones

is not adjustable.

USING YOUR TRIPLE DISPENSER

itiJmviJleJ "-I_ ! [_ fi,'=

The triple dispenser makes yourwasher truly automatic by making itunnecessary for you to return to thewasher during the cycle to put indetergent, bleach, or fabric softener,

By using the triple dispenser, you willachieve proper fabric care by ensuringthat detergent, bleach, and fabricsoftener are introduced into the washerat the proper time and properly diluted.

How It Works

The triple dispenser directs fresh waterfrom the washer inlet valve to thedispensers.

The water directed to the dispenserwill be warm if both faucets are turned onfully, regardless of wash or rinsetemperature selections. This is to ensuregood dilution of laundry products. Theamount of warm water is not enough toharm delicate or non-colorfast fabrics.

USING THE DETERGENTDISPENSER

This dispenser will automaticallydispense either liquid or powdereddetergents. You may add liquid orpowdered color-safe bleach to thisdispenser as well.

34

USING THE LIQUID CHLORINEBLEACH DISPENSER

Fb_ v.lea= "=IN i[=1 i1_

The liquid chlorine bleach dispenserautomatically dispenses bleach at theproper time in the cycle to ensure thecleanest and brightest loads,

Always measure liquid chlorinebleach. Use a measuring cup, do notguess. Do not pour directly from bottle.Never use more than 1 cup (250 mL) fora full load, Use less with smaller loads,Follow manufacturer's directions for safeuse. A cup with a pouring spout will helpyou avoid spilling.

After loading the washer, pour measuredliquid chlorine bleach carefully into thedispenser.

• Do not let bleach splash, drip, or rundown into washer basket, Undilutedbleach will damage any fabric it touches.

• Start the washer, Bleach will bedispensed automatically after thedetergent has had time to work,

NOTE: Do not use this dispenser to addpowdered color-safe bleach to your washload, The dispenser is for liquid chlorinebleach only, If desired, add powderedcolor-safe bleach to the detergentdispenser.

• Do not overfill. Look for the levelmarkings on the dispenser cover.Dispenser holds 1 cup (250 mL) ofliquid chlorine bleach.

USING THE LIQUID FABRICSOFTENER DISPENSER

After loading the washer, measure andadd the recommended amount of fabricsoftener into the dispenser. Followmanufacturer's directions.

Liquidfabricsoftenerdispenser

• Do not overfill. Dispenser holds astandard capful of fabric softener(3 oz [94 mL]).

• Fabric softener is dispensed in 2ndrinse if 2ND RINSE is selected,

NOTE: Undiluted fabric softener spilledon fabric may result in spots that looklike oil stains.

If cleaning of the liquid fabric softenerdispenser is required:

Scrub with a brush using a liquidlaundry detergent solution, Never useany cleaning fluids on dispenser partsas this could cause damage to theplastic.

PREPARING CLOTHESFOR WASHING

i-ram v.leJ "-I :.,]i [:4 i"[,

Follow these recommendations

to help you prolong the life ofyour garments,

• Close zippers, snaps, and hooks toavoid snagging other items, Removepins, buckles, and other hard objectsto avoid scratching the washer interior.Remove non-washable trim andornaments.

• Empty pockets and turn theminside out.

• Turn down cuffs, brush away lintand dirt.

• Turn synthetic knits inside out toavoid pilling.

• Tie strings and sashes so they willnot tangle.

• Mend tears, loose hems, and seams.

• Treat spots and stains.

• Stained or wet garments should bewashed promptly for best results.

SORTING• Separate heavily soiled items from

lightly soiled ones, even if theywould normally be washed together.Separate lint givers (towels, chenille)from lint takers (corduroy, synthetics, permanent press). When possible, turn lint givers inside out.

• Separate dark colors from light colors, colorfast items from non-colorfast items.

• Sort by fabric and construction(sturdy cottons, knits, delicate items).

39

LOADING LOADING SUGGESTIONS

Proper loading of your washercontributes to proper cleaning andfabric care and reduces machinenoise.

• Drop items into washer loosely. Fill tothe top of the basket (top row of holes).Do not wrap items around the agitator.Items should move easily through washwater for best cleaning and wrinklefreeresults. Items should sink and reappearlaten

• Load washer properly and selectcorrect water level setting. Overloadingor packing the machine, and selecting asetting too small for the wash load can:

- cause poor cleaning- increase wrinkling- create excessive lint

wear out items faster(because of pilling)

• Load by the amount of space itemstake up, not by their weight.

• Mix large and small items in each load.Load evenly to maintain washerbalance. An off-balance load can makethe washer vibrate during spin.

• Use a higher water level setting toreduce wrinkling with permanent pressclothes and some synthetic knits. Theseitems should have more room to move

in the water than heavy items (towels, jeans).

• Reduce wash time by using a lowerwater level setting. Loads with only afew small items need less wash time.

For these suggested full-sized loads, set the Water Level to the highest waterlevel setting.

CLEANING YOUR WASHER

Proper care of your washer can extendits life. This section explains how to carefor your washer properly and safely.

Exterior

Wipe up detergent, bleach, and otherspills with a soft, damp cloth or spongeas they occur. Occasionally wipe theoutside of the washer to keep it lookinglike new.

Do not put sharp or metal objects in yourwasher. They can damage the finish.Check all pockets for pins, clips, money, bolts, nuts, etc. Do not lay these objectson your washer after emptying pockets.

Interior

Clean interior with 1 cup (250 mL) ofchlorine bleach mixed with 2 cups(500 mL) of detergent. Run washerthrough a complete cycle using hot water.Repeat process if necessary.

NOTE: Remove hard water depositsusing only cleaners labeled as washersafe.

WATER INLET HOSES

Replace inlet hoses after five yearsof use to reduce the risk of hosefailure. Periodically inspect andreplace inlet hoses if bulges, kinks, cuts, wear, or leaks are found. Whenreplacing your inlet hoses, mark thedate of replacement on the label witha permanent marker.

WINTER STORAGEOR MOVING CARE

Install and store your washer where itwill not freeze. Because some water maystay in the hoses and pump, freezing candamage your washer. If stodng or movingyour washer during freezing weather, winterize it.

To winterize washer:1. Shut off both water faucets.

2. Disconnect and drain water inlet hoses.

3. Put 1 qt (1 L) of R.V.4ype antifreezein the basket.

4. Run washer on a DRAIN/SPIN settingfor about 30 seconds to mix the anti-freeze and water. Some of the mixturewill pump out while the washer spins.

5. Unplug the power supply cord.

To use washer again:1. Flush water pipes and hoses.2. Reconnect water inlet hoses.

3. Turn on both water faucets.

4. Reconnect power supply cord.

5. Run the washer through a completecycle with 1 cup (250 mL) of detergentto clean out antifreeze.

NON-USE OR VACATION CARE

Operate your washer only when youare at home. If you will be on vacation ornot using your washer for an extendedperiod of time, you should:

• Unplug the power supply cord or turn offelectrical power to the washer.

• Turn off the water supply to the washer. This helps avoid accidental flooding(due to a water pressure surge) whileyou are away.
