Overview• Waste Management Unit is under the department

of Public Health and is the Unit Responsible for the Collection , transportation and Disposal of Waste in the City of Lusaka .

• The Major component of the waste in this particular case is the general waste generated at House Hold, commercial and Industrial level in the different catchment ( WMU districts across the city )

Introductions and Structure of WMU• Apart from the WMU there are other players in the waste

Management Unit who comprise the following:• Fran chaise Contractors , Licensed by both LCC / ZEMA to

collect waste on behalf of the Unit from apportioned areas of the city to the Landfill.

• CBEs. Community Based Entrepreneurs are community based in the different locations of the townships and are mandated to collect waste on behalf of the Unit.

• Other Private Companies dealing in specialized waste .e.g. Waste Master etc.

• Recycling Companies dealing with separation of waste. E.g. Paper, Plastics, scrap Metal.
