Awards and Prizes •Distinguished Performance Awards •Postdoctoral Publication Prize in –Theoretical Science –Experimental Sciences Los Alamos Postdoctoral Association LAPA is an association, which was organized by postdocs for postdocs, to foster a sense of community through events organized to promote social and career networking amongst postdoctoral colleagues at LANL. http://www.lanl.gov/projects/pda . Postdoc Appointments All sponsored postdoc candidates are reviewed and selected by the Laboratory’s Postdoc Committee. Initial appointments are two years, renewable for a third. Most candidates will be offered a Postdoc Research Associate appointment. In addition, each year approximately 30 Postdoc Fellow appointments, including as many as six distinguished postdoc fellows, are awarded. Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow candidates must display extraordinary ability in scientific research and show clear and definite promise of becoming outstanding leaders in the research they pursue. These appointments are three years. Types of Appointments Postdoctoral Research Associates conduct research as part of ongoing LANL science and engineering programs. Director's Postdoctoral Fellows collaborate with LANL scientists and engineers on staff initiated research. Candidates are selected by the strengths of their academic and research excellence, as well as proposed research project. Sponsored candidates' packages are reviewed by the Postdoctoral Committee quarterly. Agnew National Security Postdoctoral Fellows conduct research aligned with the Laboratory's National Security missions which includes Environmental Programs, Stockpile Manufacturing, Weapons Physics, Weapons Engineering, and Threat Reduction Programs. US citizenship is required. Sponsored candidates' packages are reviewed by the Postdoctoral Committee annually, typically at the August quarterly meeting. This fellowship will be awarded to outstanding experimentalis regardless of their field of study.
