Bethany’s Annual Tribute Breakfast

Bethany CEO, Kevin Snyder, with award winner, Ronald Bashore.

On Friday, September 28th, 2018, Ronald L. Bashore was presented

with the 2018 Rev. Dr. Harold A. Henning Spirit Award by Bethany Children’s Home. This award is given annually to an individual to recognize their compassion for developing and empowering others.

The award recipient exemplifies a strong hearted will to provide leadership and growth for their community and Bethany with humility, authenticity and faithfulness. Ron has not only been a long-time volunteer for Bethany Children’s Home but one of our best community leaders to provide local youth opportunities for growth and healing.

Two recipients were awarded the 2018 Bethany Children’s Award: Carl H. Bloss, Bethany alumus and archivist, and the Bethany Ladies Committee who have provided 132 years and countless hours of service to Bethany Children’s Home.

Also recognized at the breakfast were our top three Over The Edge fundraisers:

Elizabeth “Betty” Coogan, Corrine Dautrich and Virginia “Din” Rush.

Speakers included Bethany Chaplain, Rev. Kim Kendrick; Bethany CEO, Kevin Snyder; Board President, Ben Campbell, Virginia Dodge of VA Productions; and Brandy Henshaw, a Bethany alumnae who shared her inspirational message about life on campus. The event was emceed by Lynn Kreider, owner of LJ’s Fitness.

The artwork on each of the tables at the Tribute Breakfast was created by the youth at Bethany Children’s Home. Over a period of several months, Artist Dustin Horne had any youth who wanted to participate, paint these unique ceramic tiles. The youth had a great time creating unique, one of a kind paintings. Each of the pieces is signed with the youth’s initials, along with BCH and 2018.

Ladies Committee accepts their award.

Bethany Alumni Picnic On Saturday, August 11th, over 60 alumni, friends and family gathered for an alumni picnic on Bethany’s campus. Alumni were

treated to a catered lunch, tours of cottages and the chapel, swimming in the pool and lots of reminiscing. Carl Bloss provided items from archives and tidbits from Bethany’s long history. Many alumni traveled from near and far to share stories from their past at Bethany Children’s Home!

Liquid CourageTo build on the excitement of our biggest fundraiser of the year,

we kicked off our Over The Edge series of events with a beautiful cocktail party and auction at the Abraham Lincoln Tower Lobby on Thursday, September 6. Over 100 Edgers, sponsors, community supporters and volunteers came together for food, fun and fabulous live and silent auction items. Dave Brennan of Special Occasions by Panevino provided the guests with delicious food and beverages. The donated auction items included antiques, trips, wine, jewelry, sports tickets and artwork created by several youth from Bethany. Bethany was honored to have several former and current Bethany residents and staff share their stories about how Bethany has changed their lives. A great time was had by all and we thank everyone that attended and made the evening a success!

2018 Over The Edge Raises $110,000Continued from front cover...Bethany Children’s Home provides a safe haven for youth to heal from their pasts and prepare for their futures! Our youth come to us with some degree of trauma from abuse, abandonment, neglect, or drug/alcohol exposure. They are seeking an opportunity to learn new skills for their journey in coping with the past, setting positive education and life goals for the present and preparing for their future. Often arriving frustrated, angry and broken, it takes time, structure and a caring environment to help our youth to realize their potential to succeed.

Through your support of our Over the Edge campaign,

you helped 63 of your friends, colleagues or family members have the opportunity to rappel down the side of Abraham Lincoln Tower located in Reading, PA on Friday, September 21, 2018. This was our 3rd year hosting this special fundraising event in Reading, PA. Individuals and teams joined together to earn a spot to rappel by raising a minimum of $1,000 from friends, family, and colleagues.

This year, Bethany asked our community to go Over the Edge to provide our local youth the hope, courage and opportunity for a brighter, stronger future. This year’s event will directly support to support Bethany’s life skill development and therapeutic services.
