A Message from Your GM

Best Regards,

Dear Members,

Five years ago, I was fortunate to be selected as General Manager at MacGregor Downs Country Club. Much has changed in that time from the Club being member-owned, through a strategic planning process, to our recapitalization by Concert Golf. I am thankful for the dedication of the Boards and Committees in my first 2 ½ years at the Club as well as the leadership of our department heads today. It is very positive that the Club is on solid financial footing with no risk of assessments and has a bright future. Capital has been invested through Concert Golf in many key areas of the Club and has been well received. We have seen an increase in member growth and programming. Youth activities were minimal several years ago and are now on the rise as we have over 750 dependent children in the membership today. We have also experienced more participation in men's events and ladies events in both golf and tennis. Future objectives include developing a waiting list to join and securing a men's intercollegiate golf event in 2018.

Even though we have heard many positives from members, we know there is always room to improve, and our team continues to work toward that objective with providing an environment that you will enjoy consistently. We think there are opportunities for more members to make connections with each other, and we have seen positive recent examples of that through the Member-Member events for men, ladies, and seniors, MacLobbers tennis events, and Wine Club tastings. Another of our challenges is to continue to gradually evolve programming and we are working on plans for 2017 programs this fall. Many of the events that are traditional and successful will continue. We also plan to interject a few new events like one that is listed below, to provide forums for members with common interests to get together and have a good time. If you have thought of activities that you feel we should consider developing at the Club, please share your thoughts with Gabby McCalister or me. We cannot provide programs for every diverse interest, but if there are opportunities to develop events that will appeal to multiple members that we are currently not offering and we can make a good business decision in providing them, we are open to the ideas. Thank you for your support. Thank you for your support.

Paint and WineSaturday, November 19 marks the inaugural Paint & Wine Event. Artist Kim Smith will provide art supplies, canvas, and instruction to members who will enjoy wine while creating their artwork. Wine Club members enjoy preferred pricing for this evening, which starts at 6:30 pm. You may reserve your spot on the Club website or by calling Colleen at 919.467.0146.

Private EventsLinda Bennett and Alex Shea report that there remain a few open dates in late November and December for holiday parties at the Club or offsite. If you have been considering an event for your company or family, please contact one of them at 919.467.0146 and they will be happy to assist you.

Concert CupThis year's Concert Cup was held at Carrollwood Country Club in Tampa, Florida. The host team from Carrollwood prevailed as the winner of the 2016 Concert Cup. Our team of Frank Cullen, Curtis Scott, Barry Woodard, and Dr. Mark Norris enjoyed the week and finished in the middle of the field. Curtis Scott and Frank Cullen played well despite some tough rough conditions.

We are pleased to announce that MacGregor Downs has been selected to host the 2017 Concert Cup, with teams competing from all the Concert Clubs! Dates are being reviewed currently and more will be shared later on next year's event.

Please join us in congratulating Adam and Shannon Keller. Their son, Jude Thomas Keller was born September 19, 2016 at 9:18 p.m, 7 lbs 5 oz! All are doing well. Concert Golf has partnered with

SENIOR GOLF

A NOTE FROM JOHN KAuzLARIcH

BEST HOLEGloria Eskridge made her first par on #9. She hit a drive, three shots down the fairway and then made a 5.5 foot putt for a natural par! Congratulations to Gloria on a hole well played!

Tournament play since our last report included CASMGA events at MDCC, Governors Club, Chapel Ridge Golf Club, and Chapel Hill CC.

There was also an MDCC Senior Golf day competitive event. Results for all these contests are available for viewing on the MDCC

website. Go to the Senior Golf Division heading on the Tournaments & Results page.

Congratulations to the winners of our Senior Member Member,

contested October 21-22.

I cannot believe the season is coming to an end; but with the colder temperatures comes more family time and the holidays. But let’s be honest, you cannot sit around all day working and eating. Come to the Club, and enjoy some beverages and your golf course because, what’s important is that you’re still playing golf at MDCC. You enjoy the game so much that little will keep you off the golf course. Consider playing from the tees up since you won’t be hitting the ball as far. Or it may be beneficial to play the same tees so you’ll have a chance to work on different shots and club selections. Playing through the cold weather months will do wonders for your golf game. Time away from the golf course is typically a bad decision for my golf game anyway (or lack thereof!). Come in the Golf Shop to do some holiday shopping, and if nothing else, the staff and myself can keep you entertained with some bad jokes and war stories.

All the best, John Kauzlarich, PGA Head Golf Professional
