Outotec LevelSenseTM Upgrade

A level measurement that really works

Outotec LevelSenseTM is a reliable and robust solution for the online slurry level and froth thickness measurement of a flotation cell. It works even if contaminated, doesn’t contain any moving parts and fits perfectly to Outotec flotation cells. Existing level measurement instruments can easily be replaced with Outotec LevelSense.

Reliability and low-maintenance requirements provide a more efficient level measurement of the flotation cells. This enables improved level control and the ability to prevent cell overflows and draining caused previously by stuck ball floats.

Totally new technology

The LevelSense solution utilizes a technology called electrical impedance tomography (EIT), which enables analysis and measurement of the media inside process tanks and pipes. Measurements are based on conductivity distribution of the media and advanced mathematical modeling.

Ability to measure the froth thickness

Outotec LevelSense reliably measures the slurry-froth and froth-air interfaces in a flotation cell. By providing both froth and slurry interfaces the froth bed thickness can be reliably measured. This has been impossible with past equipments. Froth bed thickness measurement can be used for controlling the metallurgical performance of the cell. In addition froth level collapses and overflow monitoring can be enabled. All these new measurements lead to a more stabile flotation process and to better economical performance of the flotation.

Quick and easy installation

Outotec LevelSense is especially designed for Outotec TankCell®. Measurement is carried out by using a quick to install probe sensor system that is mounted on top of a flotation cell to penetrate the froth and slurry phases of the cell. The accurate signal of the slurry-froth interface and froth thickness can be combined with Outotec CellStation®, Proscon® or other plant process control systems for improved level control.

Reliable measurement with minimal maintenance requirements

Level measurement and control is one of the key elements on flotation cells performance optimization. The level measurement of the flotation cells has always been very challenging since traditional level measurement instruments require a lot of maintenance and are unreliable in some applications. Outotec LevelSense will solve these issues. It has no moving part and therefore it requires minimal maintenance. Contamination of the measurement probe is taken into account in the advanced EIT calculations and the cleaning interval of the probe is typically several months.

Taking the process optimization to the next level

In addition to the accurate and high performance level measurement, LevelSense can be expanded with a powerful advanced analysis option of froth and slurry characteristics combined with Outotec ACTTM Advanced Process Control Applications for optimizing the grade and recovery of flotation cells and circuits. Advanced level controls can be utilized either with Outotec CellStation, Proscon or ACTTM systems.

Outotec also offers various other flotation modernization solutions such as DartValve upgrade and FloatForce mixing mechanism upgrade. By combining these Outotec solutions the best flotation performance is achieved with minimal operation costs.
