NEWS Outlook Good for Dentists According to an article recently published in the ADA News (February 3, 1986) the US Labor Department pre- dicts that job opportunities for dentists will increase at a rate "faster than average" for the economy during the next decade. The Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates a shift of employ- ment from the manufacturing sector to the service sector between now and 1995 that will benefit health care and computer occupations. Health occupations will experience increased job opportunities and con- sumer spending. Specifically, the pro- jected rise in dentist employment is 25 percent assuming moderate economic growth. Funds for Dental Research The Gramm-Rudman-Hollings budget cuts in fiscal 1986, designed to meet requirements of the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act, will reduce the National Institute of Dental Research Appropriation by $4.5 mil- lion.
