Canopies for SEN and SEND Schools

Able Canopies are the canopy experts. We provide safe and stylish weather protection solutions that serve to transform outside spaces. We design, manufacture and install quality canopy, shelter and shade systems for schools and commercial organisations throughout the UK.

Based in Clacton-on-Sea in Essex, we have supplied and installed thousands of shade and shelter structures within schools and commercial settings, leaving them with high quality, long lasting structures that look great. When we began trading 18 years ago, the very first product we introduced into our range was the Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy, a commercial grade aluminium system which created cost effective and efficient weather cover. A range of free-standing canopies and shelters later followed, all based on the continuing ethos of quality, longevity and overall, exceptional 'value for money'.

Our canopies provide schools with effective shelter and areas for outdoor learning and dining. We also work extensively with the Education sector, including universities alongside the retail, leisure & hospitality sectors to effectively transform their outside spaces.

Our team of canopy experts work with customers, architects and contractors to ensure on time, on budget, project completion. To maintain our consistently high quality we control the design, manufacture and installation process of our canopies.

We hold all the major quality and safety certifications including ISO, CHAS and Construction Line (Gold Standard) and our canopies are all CE Marked.

Our mission is to create attractive and functional shelter for all our customers, tailoring each installation to individual needs. Our dedicated team are committed to providing quality products with a personal and friendly customer service that is second to none. Our projects service enables us to manage our customers whole outdoor project, making the process much easier and simpler as they only have one company to deal with.

Our range of products are perfect for SEND environments, enabling outdoor play and learning to be achieved all year round in all weathers. Our canopies are made to order and are therefore completely bespoke to your requirements, enabling us to adapt the structures to create the perfect shade and shelter structure for your school.

Upgrades and accessories can be added to our canopies which are perfect for SEND schools such as post protection pads to protect from bumps, side panels to create additional weather protection and enclose the area which can make some children feel safer, and secure roller shutters which have the same effect, yet you can also store outdoor play equipment out of hours.

Our canopies can be installed over different floor gradients to cater for wheel chair access and we can install soft play safety surfacing under our canopies to create a softer, safer environment. The soft play is available in the design and colours of your choice which is great for sensory and imaginative play in children.

for pupils of all ages. They had an outdoorgym installed and required a structure that

would cover it and enable pupils to use thegym all year round. We therefore suppliedand installed a Hamilton Big Span Canopy

which protects against the sun’s UV raysand provides shelter from the rain.

Claremont Special School were havingtheir outside area renovated with variousplay equipment items and soft play and

required a canopy to add a dry, shelteredarea for pupils to reside when the weather

is rainy or too hot. The Tarnhow CurvedFree Standing Canopy fitted in perfectly

with their timber accessories.

Slade Primary School had a pupil withskin and eye conditions which meantthey were particularly sensitive to the sun.To enable them to join in with outdoorplay and learning with the other pupils,the school asked us to supply andinstall the Codale Junior with side panelswhich protects against levels of UV.

Roseacre had a pupil with a skincondition which meant he had tostay out of direct sunlight. Weinstalled the Conistion with opalside fills as this blocks over 98%of the sun’s UV rays, keeping anarea outside protected from thesun so he could play outsidewith his friends.
