A Foundation dedicated to global health research in developing countries January 2014, Yaoundé-Cameroon Viewing this know-do-gap in health research as a critical impediment to the value of research and the development of local communities, these professionals created R4D International in 2011 as a non-profit research and development foundation with the vision to facilitate translation of research results into practices in developing countries. R4D International has its head office in Yaoundé (Cameroon-West Africa) and is legalised in Cameroon under the registration No 00000830/ARDA/BAPPA. Our vision: To close the know-do-gap in health by linking the research community with policy makers in order to facilitate translation of research results into practices that improve the health of the populations. Our aim: R4D International is an organization dedicated to global health research, policy formulation, and implementation of evidence-based or innovative health interventions in developing countries. Our mission: To support institutions in developing countries to translate health research results into policy and health policies into practices that improve the health conditions of the populations and the development of their communities. Our core strategy: To advocate for implementation of evidence-based practices that are safe, affordable, accessible, feasible and acceptable in resource limited settings. R4D International works in collaboration with national, sub-regional, regional and international institutions or organizations to achieve delivery of evidence-based and/or innovative services in the communities in the field of global health or any other related development field. To achieve its mission R4D International operates in the following strategic domains: Implementation science: R4D International do investigate project implementation methods or strategies with the aim to demonstrate outcome in a bit to foster policy formulation based on evidence. Evidence-based policy advocacy: R4D International uses existing knowledge, evidence, best practices to advocate for the formulation of policy that impact the health and the development of communities. Innovative health research: R4D International works to create new knowledge by playing an active role in testing new ideas, concepts or strategies that are scientifically sound and potentially able to improve health outcome of the populations. Community Development: R4D International is active in design and implementation of projects aiming at achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) at community level. 1. Local Development Indicators Survey (LDIS) project This project aimed at establishing and monitoring MDGs indicators at village level. The aim is to monitor the progress of the MDGs indicators at grass root level. In 2012, R4D International supported the conduct of LDIS- 1 for Bangolan village (Babessi Council, North West Region). 2. GREEN Finance Project This is a demonstration microcredit project aiming at mainstreaming microfinance in health, gender and climate change mitigation. R4D International is currently implementing this project in 4 communities in the Centre, North-West and West Regions of Cameroon. The overall goal of this project is to alleviate poverty at community level. 3. The IeDEA project (www.iedea.org) Aimed at assessing the outcome of antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) among HIV patients. This is an international research consortium funded by the US NIH through Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA and implemented in Cameroon in 3 hospitals by R4D International in collaboration with the National AIDS Control Committee (NACC) and the Ministry of Public Health. 4. The ICT village hub The overarching goal of this project is to reduce the digital gap between the rural and urban areas by setting up in villages ICT hub where villagers can learn, use computer and internet services. R4D International is operating such centres in 2 villages in Cameroon. 5. The Community Care and Support Services (C2S2) This project aimed at improving health care delivery at community level through the promotion of public health programs. R4D International is achieving this aim through outreach health activities and creation of community health centers in underserved localities. Une fondation de recherche en

santé globale dans des pays du

Sud

R4D International est une initiative des

professionnels de santé publique lancée à la suite d'un constat selon lequel d’énormes recherches en santé sont menées dans les pays du sud, mais très peu de résultats de ces recherches se traduisent en pratiques qui améliorent le bien-être des populations dans cette partie du monde. Conscient que cette lacune dans la traduction du savoir en action est un obstacle majeur à la valeur de la recherche et du développement des communautés locales, R4D International a été créé en 2011 pour faciliter la traduction en action des résultats des recherches en santé dans les pays du Sud. R4D International est basé à Yaoundé (Cameroun-Afrique Centrale). Elle est légalisée au Cameroun sous le statut d'une fondation de recherche en santé et développement sous le No 00000830/ARDA/BAPPA

Notre vision: Réduire l’écart entre les connaissances et les pratiques en créant un lien entre les chercheurs et les décideurs afin de faciliter la traduction des résultats des recherches en pratiques qui améliorent la santé des populations.

Notre but: R4D International est une fondation dédiée à la recherche en santé globale, la formulation des politiques, et la mise en œuvre des interventions basées sur les évidences ou novatrices dans les pays en développement.

Notre mission: Soutenir les institutions dans les pays en voie de développement afin de faire émerger les résultats des recherches en politiques, et traduire les politiques de santé en actions concrètes qui améliorent les conditions de santé des populations et partant du développement local.

Notre stratégie: Faire du plaidoyer en faveur de la mise en œuvre des interventions en matière de santé qui sont sûrs, abordables, accessibles, réalisables et acceptables en contexte à ressources limitées.

R4D International travaille en collaboration

avec les organismes/institutions nationaux, sous-régionaux, régionaux et internationaux pour assurer la mise en œuvre des interventions basées sur les évidences novatrices au sein des communautés dans le domaine de la santé globale ou dans tout autre domaine de développement connexe. Pour réaliser sa mission, R4D International agit dans les domaines stratégiques ci-après :

Science-action: R4D International étudie les méthodes ou les stratégies de mise en œuvre des programmes de santé et ceci dans le but d’évaluer leurs résultats et promouvoir la formulation des politiques sur des bases factuelles.

Plaidoyer pour le développement des politiques basées sur les évidences: R4D International utilise les connaissances existantes, les évidences, les meilleures pratiques, pour plaider en faveur de la formulation des politiques à haut impact sur la santé et le développement des communautés.

Recherches innovantes en santé : R4D International œuvre dans la création des nouvelles connaissances en jouant un rôle dans l’évaluation des nouvelles idées, concepts et stratégies scientifiquement valables et potentiellement efficace pour améliorer la santé des populations.

Développement Communautaire : R4D International élabore et mets en œuvre des projets de développement communautaire dans le but de contribuer à l’atteinte des Objectifs du Millénaire pour le Développent (OMDs) au niveau local.

1. Projet d’enquête sur les Indicateurs de Développement Local (EIDL): Ce projet a pour but de mesurer l’évolution des indicateurs des Objectives du Millénaire pour le Développement (OMDs) dans des communautés rurales. En 2012, R4D International a soutenu la réalisation de l’EIDL dans le village Bangolan (Commune de Babessi, Région du Nord West). 2. Projet GREEN Finance : Il s'agit d'un projet de microcrédit visant à promouvoir l’intégration de la micro-finance dans le secteur santé, ainsi que dans les programmes de lutte contre les inégalités liées aux sexes et l'atténuation du changement climatique au niveau communautaire. Actuellement, R4D International met en œuvre ce projet dans 4 communautés dans les Régions du Centre, du Nord-Ouest et de l'Ouest Cameroun. 3. Le projet IeDEA (www.iedea.org): Ce projet vise à évaluer les résultats du traitement antirétroviral (ARVs) chez les patients atteints du VIH. Il s'agit d'un consortium international de recherche financé par le NIH des Etats Unis à travers Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA et mis en œuvre au Cameroun par R4D International en collaboration avec le Comité National Lutte Contre le SIDA (CNLS) et le Ministère de la Santé Publique. 4. Le ICT Village Hub : Le but de ce projet est de réduire le fossé numérique entre les villages et les campagnes par la création des points d’accès aux technologies de l’information et de la communication (TIC) au sein des communautés rurales. R4D International a ouvert à déjà ouvert à ce jour ces points d’accès TIC dans 2 villages au Cameroun. 5. Le Project « Community Care and Support Services (C2S2) ». Le but de ce projet est d’améliorer l’accès aux soins de santé au niveau communautaire à travers la promotion des programmes de santé publique. R4D International réalise cet objectif à travers les stratégies avancées et la création des centres de santé communautaire dans les zones desservies.

Expert : R4D International dispose d’un dispositif d’appui technique constitué d’une une équipe d’experts en santé publique facilement mobilisables pour des missions diverses (planifications, évaluation, audits,…) pour le compte des institutions/organismes nationales, régionales ou internationales.
