Our visit to Neral market

Neral market is the source of bread and butter for the people

residing in neral. On Wednesday, neral market has a special

bazaar known as the budhwaar bazaar. We were lucky to visitand experience budhwaar bazaar.

Neral market typical rural market indeed. Rural people striving

to get the best products at the lowest prices with the help of tool

known as bargaining. The market opens at 6.30am-7.00am in the

morning and closes at 8pm.

The various products offered consists of slippers, scents(attars),deodorants, vegetables, fish, prawns, chicken, fruits, flowers etc.

on the day of budhwaar bazaar chattai i.e. cane matts are being

sold on a large scale as it is the speciality of budhwaar bazaar.

The market comprises of small shops made up of bricks, cement

as well as bamboo. Medical shops have achieved a decent

growth in the last 3 years to meet the medical needs of the

people. Even though, the market is located at neral many

products are being imported from other cities.

The flowers are majoratcally brought from kalyan flower market

and shahpur flower market. The apparels of children are brought

from nearby towns. The scents are made locally with the raw

material brought from central Mumbai. Chicken is being

purchased from shahpur. Seafood like fishes as well as prawns

are being imported from Mumbai docks, whereas vegetables are

being brought from kalyan.

The market is on the verge of development and it can be seen by

the growth in digital stores, atm facilities, bakery.

The market celebrates various festivals such as diwali, holi,

raksha bandhan and specially ganesh utsav.

Being a rural market, the price range is not high. The price ofchattai ranges from rs. 50 for the small ones and goes upto rs.

160 for the larger ones. The prices of slippers starts with rs. 50

to 60 for each pair. Scents (attar) are being sold at rs. 20 for a

bottle of 15ml, whereas deodorants are sold at M.R.P.

Neral market was developing rapidly through area wise and by

supply of goods and services to the customer properly

Many people arrive at neral station to follow up the destination

of matheran.From neral station Mini or toy train are there to

arrive neral to matheran it takes 2.hrs to reach by mini trains.

Sellers in neral market buy vegetables from kalyan and sell it in

neral.All vegetables were available such as tomoto, potato,

cabbage, onion, lemon,etc.price of vegetables was reasonables

as other markets.also lowering the price of vegetable for large

quantity purchase.

3.DRESSES AND SAREE

The shopkeeper of dresses bring dresses from VASHI and CST

which were at low ranges only for daily use only.

It hs different types of saree with embrodery which were

purchased from Ahmedabad.the sale of saree was more in the

neral market most of ladies wear sarees.

4.SLIPPERS, SANDALS AND CHAPPALS

In market of neral there was trend of slippers more people preferfor slippers rather than for others.only 10 % people prefer for

sandals and chappals but the sale of shoes were negligible.the

slippers were brought from badlapur and kalyan.sandals and

chappals from CST.The shop was opened from morning 7 to till

night 8.

5.FLOWERS

Flowers were available in main market.the flowers were totally

fresh.The lady selling flower bring from badlapur at morning

daily.keeps different flowers roses,mogra etc.she makes mala of

flower by its own.

6.Chickens available

It was from different species which was available in the marketand has to sell in the market.the sale of chicken was more as

compare to other products.people love to eat chicken in

neral.seller also supply chickens in matheran.

7.PERFUMES AND SCENTS

Selling of perfumes at footpath only.specially sale was for

muslims.the people selling in footpath were rude to all

customers because of frustration that all customers only see and

not purchasing products.this products was purchase from CST.

8.PURSES AND PLASTIC ITEMS

Purses available for ladies of various types and design.plastic

items are such as baskets,baby playing items, utensils used inkitchen.Toys for babies such as car,bikes etc.other utensils such

as lighter,socks were also available for the people.

9.PACKETS

Packets of gems,spices,sweet goli etc.these packets were

purchased from matheran consumers purchase was from touristonly they sale this product to tourist.the regular customers dont

purchase these items.the maxium sale of various packets by

tourists.

10.FISHES AND PRAWNS

The consumers sale for fishes more they love to eat fish.they

also purchase prawns but less.As per the choice of consumerthey sale their product.

80% of consumer were non-vegetarian so they eat all types of

fishes ans prawns etc.

11.MEDICAL STORES

Consumers get facilities of medical stores in rural market for

urgency and emergency.only one medical shop available inwhole market which was since from 25 years.All the basic

medical were available which are necessary for the

consumers.In neral there was also only one hospital which was 3

kms away from main market.
