Councillor Trip to Red Hill On Tuesday, 19th February our eight CVPS School Councillors attended the Leadership program at Red Hill, accompanied by Mudgee Public School and Gulgong Public School. They learnt how to lead and take on the roles and responsibilities of being a School Councillor. They also acquired the understanding of acknowledging the Aboriginal heritage of our lands and the importance of doing so. They were educated about the skills of using body language, eye contact and interacting with the audience to enhance their public speaking. The Councillors cooperated and interacted well with their peers while understanding their strengths and weaknesses.

Chloe, Oliver, Maddie, Ben, Skye, Dominic, Brianna and James all look forward to implementing their new found skills to improve the school for all students.

Clean Up Australia Day This year our school will be participating in the annual Clean Up Australia Day. This event will take place at school on Friday, 1st March. Each class has been allocated a section of the school to tidy, and we are all looking forward to the positive impact this will have on our school environment. We are asking parents to please provide their children with a pair of gardening gloves for use during our clean up. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Rebecca Daniell

Sports News

Inter-School Sport

Each year CVPS enters competitive teams in several sporting knockouts run by the NSW Primary School Sports Association (PSSA). This year we have entered teams in the Australian Football, Cricket, Tennis, Softball, Rugby League, Netball, Rugby Union, Football (Soccer) and Touch knockouts.

These competitions are run as an ‘Open Under-12s’ age classification, for students in Years 3-6. Students sign up on the noticeboard next to the canteen to indicate their interest in a sport. Try outs for the following sports have begun at school during recess and lunchtime:

Cricket – boys and girls – Mrs da Roza

Australian Football – boys and girls – Mr West and Miss Fitzgerald

Tennis – boys and girls – Ms Shady

It is each student’s responsibility to attend the try outs, where the most competitive team will be selected to represent the school. If selected, students will be given information and a consent form for their next game.

P&C News It was wonderful to see all the new faces at last week’s monthly meeting. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to come along and be a part of your school P&C. A few things were decided upon and can now be added into your school calendar. Term 1 Election Day BBQ & cake stall – Saturday 23

rd

March. Our school is a polling booth site for the NSW state election. We will be calling on all our bakers, young and old, to bake some goodies for our cake stall. At the last election we had over 100 cakes and biscuits donated, which all sold out within 2 hours and raised $1000 for the school. We are keen to see if we can break that record this year. We have some committee member’s keen to fire up the sausage sizzle as well this year, so the kids can have breaky or lunch while you vote. More info will come on the details in the 2 weeks before the day. Disco There will not be a Disco held in Term 1 due to the busy schedule already in place. There are 3 large excursions happening before the end of the term which means there is not really an evening left for Disco night. Feel welcome to come along to our next meeting to discuss what other dates and options may be available during the year. Term 2 Cross country / Fun Run - Friday 10

th May

This year the Cross country is going to be lots of fun for everyone! As well as being the school cross country competition which will lead onto Zone and Regional competitions, we are also going to use it as our annual Fun Run event. The aim will be to raise the remaining funds needed for our All-weather sports court. We have partnered with School Fun Runs, and everyone will have the opportunity to raise money while running the course. Plans are underway to make it a big, colourful and fun day for everyone. Fun Run packs will arrive soon and the kids can start phoning up family members and friends to donate and support them while they run. AGM – Thursday 21

st March

All executive positions will be advertised in the newsletter and on our Facebook page over the next few weeks, so have a read and a think about whether you would like to be more involved at CVPS. Please don’t hesitate to contact me on FB or via the school if you have any questions about P&C or our events. Regards, Jenni Buckley
