GETTING TO NUS BUKIT TIMAH CAMPUS BY TAXI

If this is your first time coming to the NUS Bukit Timah Campus, instruct the cab driver to take you to the NUS Bukit Timah Campus. Note: NUS BTC is in the vicinity of the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Please do not let the driver take you to the main campus at Kent Ridge/Clementi Road which is about 20 minutes away by car. We recommend referring the taxi driver to the location map below. When you arrive at the alighting point indicated in the location map, please look out for directional signs that will lead you to the seminar rooms.

FOOD & BEVERAGE Food and beverage will include coffee, tea and water throughout the day and one (1) lunch which is provided by a Halal Caterer during the course sessions. Please note that light snacks will be provided during the morning and afternoon breaks at the NUS Bukit Timah Campus. Participants are also welcome to buy snack items from the NUS cafeteria on Level 1 of Block B.

Resources you will be able to take advantage of during the course of the Academy:

CIL Selected Materials You will receive in your welcome pack a small binder titled ‘CIL Selected Materials’. This includes basic materials (conventions, arbitration rules etc.) which may be of use to you during the lectures and workshops you will be participating in during the Academy. This binder is for your personal use and you are welcome to take it with you at the end of the Academy.

Reference Material for the Statement of Facts On your first day at the Academy, Christopher Thomas Q.C. will brief participants on the hypothetical which will form the backdrop of workshops and simulations during the Academy. You will be provided an electronic compilation of accompanying reference material.

ISLG and Investment Treaty Arbitration website We will be in touch with you regarding your privileged access to the premier investment arbitration resource – Investor State LawGuide (www.investorstatelawguide.com). This, and the publicly available Investment Treaty Arbitration website (www.italaw.com), will be invaluable resources we encourage participants to take advantage of during the course of the Academy.

INFORMATION FOR OVERSEAS PARTICIPANTS

Before Arrival Please ensure that you have the following:

passport with at least 6 months’ validity a valid Singapore entry visa (if applicable) sufficient funds for the duration of your stay

Currency Exchange Change your money at the currency exchange counters in the terminals at Singapore Changi International Airport, if necessary. Climate Singapore is generally hot and humid year round, with the temperature almost never dropping below 20°C (68°F), even at night, and usually climbing to 30°C (86°F) during the day. Humidity is high, mounting over a 75% mark. June-August is considered to be the best time to visit, but even then it rains often. Light, comfortable clothing is recommended for outdoor activities.
