OUR SAVIOR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH JUNE 2018 NEWSLETTER
Stewardship News
Stewardship Committee Mission
Statement: The goal, of our stewardship
discipleship ministry at Our Savior’s
Lutheran Church, is to help God’s people
grow in their relationship with Jesus,
through the use of time, talents and
finances, that God has entrusted to them.
This is a good time to thank people in
advance for their continued stewardship
support of our Gospel Ministry here at
OSL over the Summer months. If you are
away from church during weekends don’t
forget the option that you can send your
Gospel Ministry offering by mail.
Wendy Thon, Kathy Baarsch and I
attended the first Stewardship for All
Seasons (SAS) meeting in Rochester. The
next meeting in Rochester is scheduled for
August 22nd. We’re in the beginning
phases of this Stewardship Emphasis
which will concentrate activities in the
Fall. The purpose of SAS is to lead
congregations into effective stewardship
ministry which is a
holistic and
systemic
emphasis.

Our Savior’s Mission Statement Using God’s Word as a foundation, Our Savior’s Lutheran shall, through meaningful worship, study, prayer and mission outreach, provide a Christ-centered atmosphere of enthusiasm, support, sensitivity and openness to all people.
God’s people find a place of belonging, God’s people devoted to seek God’s purposes, God’s people committed to compassionate caring.
Blessing of the Bikes Please bring/ride your bikes
including motorcycles to the
June 10th service. The service
will focus on our stewardship to
God's creation. See you on June
10th for the Blessing of the Bikes!
The OSL Church Council has called a congregational meeting for Sunday June 3rd, following the worship service, to seek approval to purchase an upgrade to the current sound system.
Father's Day Invite all who give a father’s care to worship in person or pray on Sunday, June 17th. We will be honoring them during the service.
Remember our Deadlines! Articles and announcements for the newsletter: The 17th of each month. Announcements for the worship bulletin: Thursday, noon.

1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter
under heaven: 2 . . . a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; – Ecclesiastes 3
As we begin the Summer months school is out for students. Technically, Summer doesn’t begin until the Summer Solstice on June 21st. Nonetheless, the temperatures have warmed up, trees and flowers are in bloom as the grass grows tall. The planting, of seeds in the fields on surrounding farms, as well as in people’s gardens, is done in anticipation of the harvest that is to come. These 3 months signal a time of travel experiences for young and old alike. While some people will be going on vacations the church doesn’t take a vacation.
Instead Summer activities begin. There will be Vacation Bible School, with students, youth and adults, exploring God’s Word and ways outside of the usual Sunday School classroom setting. I’ll join some of our youth and adults as we travel to Houston to attend the ELCA National Youth Gathering.
Every weekend will bring a new worship experience, a new opportunity to give thanks and praise to God, from VBS Sunday, the Blessing of the Bikes, Father’s Day, Christmas in July, and our annual outdoor worship service.
Whether it’s during the Summer or the other 9 months of the year, remember when you travel to take time for worship. In your travels, take time to give thanks to God, to read and hear the Word, and pray. Be it lakeside or riverside, at the campsite, in the cabin, along the trail, at the beach, in the city, or in the countryside, at another church, or on the open road, take time for God.
Whenever you’re at home, on weekends this Summer, join us for worship during these Summer months. On your own, with family or friends, with neighbors/strangers or here at OSL, start your week with worship. Remember the Sabbath. Safe journeys, in your faith life, during these Summer months.
That’s the Word.

God provides in abundance and generously for
all of our needs. Sometimes the ways can
surprise us. Sometimes we find ourselves as the
grateful recipients of the gifts. Sometimes God
uses us to meet the needs of others.
The following story is one of my favorites. It’s
about a grocery store owner who tried to weigh
a prayer.
A despairing, tired looking woman came into
the store and asked for enough food to make a
dinner for her children. Her husband had
recently died, and she was trying in vain to keep
her family’s head above water. But between her
husband’s business debts and other bills there
just wasn’t enough money for food that week.
The grocer asked her how much she could
spend. The tired woman answered, head bowed,
“I have nothing but a little prayer.”
The storekeeper was not very sentimental, so he
said half-mockingly, “Write it on a slip of paper,
and I’ll weigh it.” So she did. The grocer placed
the prayer on the weight side of his old-
fashioned scales. Then he began piling food on
the other side. But to his amazement, the scale
would not go down. He finally became flustered
and gave the woman four large bags of food,
enough to last a family of four for two weeks.
The grocer never saw the woman again, but to
this day he treasures the slip of paper upon
which the woman’s prayer had been written—
“Please, Lord give us this day our daily bread.”
Consider how God answers your prayers. When
life changes; when a need arises; when you are
presented with an opportunity to share; pray
that your own prayers are worthy and weighty.

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Endowment
Fund was established in 1995 to enhance the
mission outreach of our Church apart from the
general operation of the congregation. The
Endowment Fund is overseen by a committee of
OSL members and only a percentage of money
earned above the principle can be used. A large
portion of the Funding has come from estate
bequests. The Fund is under management of
investment representative Debby Fugleberg at
Home Federal Investment Services. If you are
interested in including this Fund in your Estate
Planning or ongoing support to our
congregation, please contact Debby for an
appointment.

The Family of Virginia Johnson would like to thank Pastor Mark & Pastor Betsy for the amazing service; the ladies aid for serving the lunch; and to all of our church family, that has done so
much. The Grace Notes, cards, and visits, while Mom was in the hospital and care center.
What a blessing to have such a talent as Evelyn to play the organ and Mary Ann Schultz to sing.

June 3rd is a big day at OSL! We will be
installing the VBS staff and our 2018
VBS: Shipwrecked adventure begins!
See you all there! The sanctuary will
become a bit beachy for the week. Can’t
wait to share it with you all.
There are so many to thank for the
Sunday School year. The teachers, the
staff, the folks that donated items, the
ministry team, the OSL staff and the
children.
At the end of the Sunday School year
the ministry team and I decided to start
a Summer Sunday School box. We
want the children to remember that
wherever they go they take a piece of
OSL with them and that they can still
be learning and growing in faith. Each
family received a “flat Luther” to take
with them. They are to take pictures of
“flat Luther” on vacation, visiting other
churches and in their everyday summer
activities. If I receive pictures I will
share them on the Facebook page and
on the big screen.
Blessings to all, Gina Jahn Part-Time Education Coordinator [email protected] 507-251-1610

The service group lists are of people in the congre-
gation who are asked to bring items for special
events at the church. The lists have gone through
some changes to try to even out the lists with
people who can be available to respond in service.
For a number of reasons, there are people who are
not included on the lists (shut-in, live out of town,
have indicated a desire not to be contacted, etc.)
Thank you to all the people in Our Savior’s who
live out their faith in caring support of the
ministries of the church.
