Emergency Management Exercise This FridayCaroMont Health’s Emergency Management Program recognizes the need for a full community approach to disaster planning. This overarching theme of emergency management emphasizes community coordination and collaboration throughout the four phases of emergency management (mitigation, planning, response and recovery). Working in partnership with our community agencies helps to strengthen relationships and build comprehensive response plans.

To exercise this approach and test our emergency response plans, we will conduct a training exercise on the morning of Friday, December 2 at CaroMont Specialty Surgery (CSS) and the Emergency Department. This emergency exercise will involve Gastonia City Fire Department, Gaston College, Gaston County EMS, Lincoln County EMS and Stuart W. Cramer High School’s Health Occupations class, and will test our response to a Code Red fire scenario at CSS and a utility failure at the hospital. Patient movement will be tracked and the Incident Command Center will be opened for operations.

The exercise will not only test our internal and community response, but it also provides compliance with The Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid emergency management requirements.

There will be signage to alert visitors that a training exercise is in progress, but should you get questions from patients or visitors, please assure them there is no real emergency. Thank you for your support in this important exercise.

REMINDER: Complete your Clinical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA) by December 15!

Employees who enrolled in the medical plan for 2017, please be sure to complete the online CHRA by December 15 in order to lock in the lower premium for 2017. Learn more about where you stand with your health and what you can do to improve your risk of developing chronic conditions and diseases in the future.

Employees who do not take the CHRA by December 15 will pay an additional $15 per pay period in 2017. Go to www.umr.com to complete the assessment or visit the Human Resources page on CHIP for instructions.

Celebrating Excellence in Nursing On the evening of Thursday, November 17, more than 70 members of our nursing staff were honored during the Nursing Excellence Awards Gala at the Gastonia Conference Center. During the awards ceremony, Nursing Excellence Awards and the Nightingale Award were presented and celebrated.

Ronnie Pittman, BSN, RN, CPAN, CAPA, was named the 24th Nightingale Award recipient. CaroMont Health’s Nightingale Award is based on the ideals set forth by Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing as a modern profession. The award is presented annually to an Award for Nursing Excellence recipient who has distinguished themselves through their nursing excellence, professionalism, community service and commitment to continuing education.

Sponsored by the Council for Nursing Excellence, Nurses and Nursing Stars (PCAs and UCCs) are chosen by their peers to be honored for Nursing Excellence based on their patient care skills, compassionate behavior, positive relationships, responsiveness to patients, families and others, and their support of the healthcare team.
