Our Next Steps…
Why did it take so long? Some waiting 9 months… I needed some time to get familiar
with the college (strengths/needs) I wanted the leadership team in
place which will be responsible to keep us successful
13.5 hrs since Dec. 1st More far-reaching than originally
anticipated
Context/Background Why reorg?
• To bring resources to priorities• To accomplish major changes in approach to
fundamental operations Why now?
• Unresolved EM reorg (“interim”)• Results of splitting Instruction & Student
Development• Get this behind us – ready for new strategic
vision
Context/Background (cont.)
People were moved to positions/needs – not positions created for people• Therefore – there are no rewards or
punishments in this reorganization• People have different assignments, but only
to: Be consistent with our new operational philosophy –or- Align particular skills with particular needs
Over-riding Principle: Do what is best for NTCC!
Constraining Limitations No net increase in positions; No new money to personnel; Tax loss yet to be absorbed
Two Issues Drove the Reorg:
Broad agreement (in & out of EM) … it’s not working• Looked at people in place – good people
doing a good job under impossible circumstances
• Looked at recruitment team – solid and performing very well
• Conclusion: structure is major hindrance, inadequate resources in place
2nd Issue New Philosophy:
We will grow to the right size based on our core functions – put the resources and responsibility
there!1. Instructional quality;2. Program availability;3. Customer service – ease of processes
Recruiters are support, not headhunters Program managers are responsible for
recruitment into their programs. Student Services coordinates, tracks, and assists
