GCI signs pactwith Rotterdam groupfor representation

Houston-based Gulf Commerce Inter-national, Inc., (GCI) and the MaritimePress Group (MPG) of Rotterdam haveentered a mutual representation agree-ment to provide global public relationsand advertising services to their respec-tive clients.

Under the agreement, GCI will han-dle certain assignments of MPG in theU.S. and MPG will reciprocate onassignments by GCI in Europe.

"It’s a strengthening alliance for bothof us," said GCI President C.A.Rousser, "as the majority of our clientsare international and maritime-oriented."

Capt. John T. Scardasis has been ap-pointed vice president-operations, WestGulf, for Lykes Bros. Steamship Co.,Inc. He succeeds Warren C. Eitelbach,who is retiring.

Scardasis has served since mid-1983as assistant to Eitelbach, based inHouston.

He attended Florida State Universityand is a graduate of the United StatesMerchant Marine Academy, with a B.S.degree in marine transportation.

He was named marine manager-Galveston in 1967 and assistantmanager- marine division, West Gulf, in1971. In 1976 he was named manager ofthe Galveston office.

Eitelbach joined Lykes in 1946 as achief officer after service as a seamanand deck officer. In 1949 he was namedstevedoring supervisor in Houston andin 1956 was appointed manager ofLykes’ West Gulf stevedoring opera-tions.
