LeadershipHoward T. Prince ii, Ph.D.Dr. Prince began his career at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he earned its highest honor, the Distinguished Graduate Award. Dr. Prince has also earned degrees from American University, The University of Texas at Austin, the U.S. Army War College and the University of Bonn in Germany. His studies ranged from International Relations and Psychology to Political Science, Sociology, Economics, History, and Law. He served for 28 years in the United States Army, retiring with a list rank of Brigadier General, and was presented with the highest award for service, the Distinguished Service Medal. During his career Prince also received 2 Purple Hearts for combat wounds, 2 Bronze Stars for valor, the Bronze Star for service, the Distinguished Flying Cross for valor, the Silver Star for valor, and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

His contributions to education began at West Point. As Professor and Head of Leadership and Behavioral Studies, his programs helped reshape leader development in the U.S. Army. As Founding Dean of the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond, he developed the first undergraduate leadership degree program in the world. Today Dr. Prince serves as Director for the Center of Ethical Leadership at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin, where he continues to promote leadership education both nationally and internationally.

SportsmanshipRay Benson

Ray is an accomplished musician, producer, actor, and writer. Ray has performed on over 40 records and produced another 40+ albums or songs with such artists as: Willie Nelson, Aaron Watson, Carolyn Wonderland, and Jason Roberts. Throughout his music career he has been seen in ten music videos and won nine Grammy Awards, was named the “Texas State Musician”, was named the Academy of Country Music Band of the Year, was inducted into theAustin Music Awards Hall of Fame, the Western Swing Society Hall of Fame, and has won three Austin Music Awards. Ray has appeared on numerous television shows including: David Letterman, Conan O’Brian, Johnny Carson, and a variety of others. He has been in 35 commercials and 16 films. Ray has produced, acted in, and co-wrote A Ride with Bob, a two act musical about Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. Ray also works hard to be involved in the Austin community by serving on many boards including: The Austin Lyric Opera, Ballet Austin, St. David’s Foundation, SIMS Foundation, KLRU/Austin City Limits, Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, Rhythm and Blues Foundation, ACM, and is a member of: CMA, NARAS, AFTRA, and AF of M.

ResponsibilityDr. Thomas CedelCedel received his Ph.D in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh; he went on to attend the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has been elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and also served as a Pre and Post Doctoral Fellow at the National Institutes for Health and Carnegie Mellon University. After completing his education, Cedel served in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot, commanding a fighter squadron and acting as vice-commander of a fighter wing. His knowledge of air craft and strategic planning earned him the Defensive Superior Service Medal and the Legion of Merit. He assisted the Secretary of Defense on strategy and requirement issues in the Pentagon, finally retiring with the rank of Colonel. He later served as Head of the Operations Analysis Department at Northrup Grumman-TASC Inc.

Cedel now serves as President of Concordia University Texas. Cedel previously served as the Chief Academic Officer and Dean of Arts and Sciences at Concordia University Ann Arbor. Cedel is supported by his wife, son and daughter, and is the proud grandfather of a newborn grandson.

Betty Dunkerley’s 40 year long career as a public servant began in the world of finance. With an Accounting degree from Lamar University, this former CPA started her professional life in the cities of Dallas and Beaumont, where she held high-ranking financial management positions.

Often called a “financial guru,” Ms. Dunkerley served the City of Austin for more than 19 years as an Assistant City Manager, Financial Services Director and Finance Director Emeritus, before being elected to the City Council. During that time Ms. Dunkerley worked on issues related to health care, public safety, housing, taxes, water and the environment. Ms. Dunkerley served on City Council for two terms, and held the position of Mayor pro-tem in her second term. During her tenure as a council member, she also sat on the Board of the Austin Housing Finance Corporation, as well as many other committees and sub-committees dealing with issues ranging from Taxes and Retirement to Land Use and Transportation.

She now works as a consultant, serving as a principal in Civic Interest, a group that works on various projects of public interest throughout the city.

IntegrityDeLoss DoddsBorn in Riley, Kansas, Dodds was a prep football, basketball, and track standout, lovingly nicknamed the “Riley Flash.” Dodds graduated from Kansas State and after attending graduate school and joining the U.S. Army, Dodds returned to his alma mater as assistant track coach. After becoming head coach two years later, he held that position for fourteen years. Dodds later served as Director of Athletics at Kansas State forthree years and as assistant commissioner of the Big Eight Conference for two years. Dodds came to the University of Texas in 1981 were he has changed the face of UT athletics. The University of Texas program has enjoyed twelve National Championships and 98 conference titles in nine different sports.

Dodds has been honored with the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame’s John L. Toner Award and the Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal National Athletic Director of the Year. He also won the Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen Award. He was inducted into the Drake Relays Coaches Hall of Fame, the Kansas State Athletic Hall of Fame as well as the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Dodds lives in Austin with his wife Mary Ann, and has three children and eight grandchildren.

ConfidenceGary S. Farmer

Farmer is currently the President of Heritage Title Company of Austin and has been in the insurance industry since 1985. Gary is very active within the Austin community, serving on several prestigious boards. He serves on the Governors Business Council, the U.T. Chancellors Council, and the Children’s Medical Center Foundation of Central Texas. He serves on the Executive Board of the Real Estate Council, of Austin (RECA), the Trust for Public Lands and the Boy Scouts of America-Capital Area Council. He Chairs the Greater Austin Economic Development Corporation and Opportunity Austin 2.0. Past positions include President of RECA, and Chairman of Advantage Austin III.

A variety of awards have been bestowed to Farmer including: “Austinite of the Year” and Sam Walton Business Leader Award by the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, the W. Neal Kocurek Real Estate Lifetime Achievement Award by the Austin Business Journal, and the Texas Land Title Association’s Outstanding Young Title Person Award.

RespectLTG(R)Paul E. Funk, Ed.D.Dr. Funk attended Montana State University, where he was in the ROTC program, and studied Animal Science, Psychological Counseling, and Education. He also earned an honorary Doctorate in Engineering for his pioneering work to introduce technology on the battlefield. Funk’s 30-year military career with the U.S. Army led him to battle in Vietnam and then later in Iraq as Commanding General of the Third Armored Division in Desert Storm. During his distinguished career he Commanded III Corps at Fort Hood, TX, the U.S. Army Armor Center at Fort Knox, KY, and the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, CA. He worked to improve the training and education of soldiers through his tenure in the Army, and at UT where he led the Army War College Senior Service Fellowship Program and developed an Army Intermediate Qualification Course.

Currently, Funk serves as Director of the Education and Technology Applications Division at The UT Institute for Advanced Technology. Prior to joining the UT team he served as General Dynamics Land System’s Vice President for Middle Eastern Operations and Customer Service and Support. Funk is also a rancher in Copperas Cove, TX where he proudly raises Hereford cows and bulls. He is supported by his wife, Danny, three children, and eight grandchildren.

HonestyHank RothellBorn in Austin, Texas, Mr. Rothell started playing golf at the age of six taking lessons from two Austin PGA professionals, Felix George and Carl Gustafson at the Hancock Golf Course. Mr. Rothell attended McCallum high school and moved to The University of Texas in Austin, where he studied for three years. He left school to follow his entrepreneurial spirit, starting a building design and construction business. With a reputation for quality, this company helped to develop Austin’s Northwest hills area. He went on to invest in and run several more businesses until his retirement. Mr. Rothell’s commitment to civic service led to his involvement in founding the Georgetown Community Area Foundation, as well as working as a reserve peace officer with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Rothell and his wife Cathy are dedicated not only to their four daughters and their families, but also the community Through volunteer and philanthropic means, they support charities that directly benefit children. Most notably, Mr. Rothell is a founding Board Member of the Central Texas Golf Classic, a success fundraiser that supports the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

PerseverancePascal Pat D. Forgione, Jr. Ph.D.

Dr. Forgione has dedicated his life to education working for organizations such as: The Connecticut State Department of Education, The National Center for Research in Vocational Education at Ohio State University, the Syracuse Research Corporation, the Maryland State Department of Education and Stanford University. Recently Dr. Forgione has served as U.S. Commissioner of Education Statistics for the National Center for Education Statistics, Delaware Superintendent for Public Instruction and was the first Executive Director for the U.S. Department of Education’s National Education Goals Panel.Dr. Forgione was the Superintendent of the Austin Independent School District and in July 2009 was appointed Distinguished Presidential Scholar and Executive Director for the new Center on K-12 Assessment and Performance Management with the Education Testing Service. He is supported by his wife, Kaye, and three sons.

JudgmentClarke Heidrick

Clark grew up in Austin and attended St. Stephens Episcopal School, Vanderbilt University and Southern Methodist University School of Law. He is currently an attorney with the firm Graves, Dougherty, Hearon, and Moody where he has practiced since 1977. He serves on the firm’s board of directors and is former President and managing partner of the firm. Heidrick is an active member of the Austincommunity serving as Chair of the Board of Shivers Cancer Foundation, Chair of the Board of the Foundation for Religious Studies in Texas, Past President of Austin Area Research Organization, Chair of the Board of Rebekah Baines Johnson Center, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, a member (and former Chair) of the Board of Managers of the Travis County Healthcare District, member of the Executive Committee of Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Board of Governors of the Headliners Foundation. He previously served as Chair of the Board of United Way Capital Area and as Co-Chair of the 2009 United Way Capital Area Campaign.

Clark has received much recognition for his service including: United Way of Texas Pioneer Award, United Way Capital Area Community Campaign Award, the Neal Kocurek Award for Healthcare Advocacy, the Austin Bar Association David Walters Community Excellence Award and Care Communities Byron Cox Award.

Clark is supported by his wife, Catherine and their four children.
