HONORING OUR LORD JESUS Mike Seale Well, it is that time of year again when we recognize our graduating seniors from High School. We are always proud for the accomplish- ments of all our students, especially those of us who are the parents of the students being honored. We have another terrific group of young people being honored today and I happen to be a proud parent of one of those graduates. Congratulations to all of our graduates!! When I see out students come to this point in their lives, it moves me to thank GOD for all that he has done for our families. We all go through storms, even those occasional heartaches as we watch our children grow up and make mistakes, but we stand beside them and walk with them. As brother Bill Wheeler said a few weeks ago in class, “I’d walk through hell for any one of my children, and if I am willing to walk through hell for them, maybe I should be willing to walk through hell with them.” Today as we worship in this assembly, we give praise to GOD for his Son, Jesus, who went through hell for us. As Paul wrote, “GOD made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of GOD,” (2 Cor. 5:21). Peter said, “When they hurled in- sults at him, he did not retaliate, when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed,” (I Peter 2:22-24). Let us give praise to the “Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise,” (Revelation 5:12). “Success leads to the greatest failure, which is arrogance and pride. Failure can lead to the greatest success, which is humility and learning. In order to fulfill yourself, you have to forget yourself. In order to find yourself, you have to lose yourself.” Author David Brooks, commence- ment speech Dartmouth, 2015.
