Dear Parishioners, This weekend we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi. It is the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. In truth, every Sunday and every Mass calls us to the truth that Jesus Christ is fully present in the Eucharist that we share. On the Last supper He said, “This is my Body and this is my Blood”. Saint Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “ For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you, do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me. For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” In the second century AD, Saint Justin wrote about the Eucharist, “Not as common bread or as common drink do we receive these…we have been taught that the food that has been Eucharized by the word of prayer, that food which nourishes our flesh and blood, is the flesh and blood of the incarnate Jesus.” As we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, may we more deeply reflect on the great gift that we have been given, which is the Real Presence of our Lord and Savior. In a very special way, we say “Thank You” today to Nancy Schoenberg, who joined Our Lady of the Woods in the very earliest days of the parish. We were still located at the Kennedy School. Nancy has seen the Our Lady of the Woods Parish grow from 300 families to 2,600 families. She has created our Traditional Choir, Contemporary Choir, and our Resurrection Choir. She has worked with children and families in creating musical opportunities. She has molded every aspect of the Music Program here at Our Lady of the Woods. Nancy has been more than a Music Director. She has been a friend to many and a valuable member of the Parish. This is the spiritual home of her, her husband Tom, and their children. She has immersed herself in other ministries such as our Veterans’ Ministry, which she will continue to lead. Nancy will be retiring this summer. This weekend marks the last Sunday that she will be leading the traditional Choir. Please join me in thanking Nancy for her many years of service. Finally, this Sunday, the first of the Parish Mission Trips begins. Please pray for our young people and those adults who are accompanying them. May this time be grace-filled and may they return to us safely. In Christ,

Father Mike
