This appeal is to raise over $60m for the ministry of the Diocese of Charleston in the years to come. Bishop Guglielmone has set up a separate fund for the collection and dispersion of funds, so the reve- nue collected will go to the special causes of education, evangeliza- tion, vocations and work with the needy across South Carolina. You have probably heard that 50% of your gift returns to Our Lady of the Rosary parish. The way it works is that we ask you to make a pledge next Sunday. As you pay off the pledge, the diocese sends 50% of your gift back to the parish. We have decided to use these extra funds to further the work of Mother Teresa House—our referral center for the needy in this part of Greenville. Greenville is a very generous and Christian town, but most of the charities and assistance centers are in West Greenville and down- town. This is despite the fact that our area of Greenville has been proven to be the most needy—with residential poverty, transient pov- erty along I-85, and rural poverty on the other side of the highway. Chris Loewer is the director of Mother Teresa House. He is working hard with all the other charities in Greenville to make connections and put the needy in our area in touch with the whole range of services to help them get back on their feet. This is challenging and sometimes discouraging work, and Chris is doing a magnificent job. He will be speaking about his work at the Masses this weekend. I hope you will make a generous pledge to the Bishops Bicentennial Appeal knowing that this helps the work of the Catholic Church across the state, but also gives a big boost to our work here in the area around our campus. If you have any questions about how to make your pledge or pay your pledge please be in touch with Beth Jones in the parish office. She and Donna Craft will assist you with all the practicalities. Your Pastor, Fr. Longenecker

CONFIRMATION NEWS

In keeping with diocesan guidelines, OLR implements a two-year program to prepare for Confir-mation. The first year of the program con-sists in participation in religion classes at school (OLR, St. Joseph’s, etc.), or a parish religious education program. In addition to the same requirements as the first year,

Confirmation candidates attend a series of additional classes and activities. At OLR, the sacrament of Confir-mation is administered in the Spring of 8th grade. A requirement is participation in the Real Love & Real Life Program presented by Family Honor. This year, the program will be presented via webinar. It is for 8th graders, but 7th and 9th graders are also allowed to at-tend. If you would like your 7th grader to attend, they will not be required to attend as 8th graders.

The Real Love & Real Life Program consists of five sessions, presented via webinar this Fall

beginning Oct. 26, 2020. Go here to register.

Bishop’s Bicentennial Appeal

PLEDGE SUNDAY OCTOBER 11

We will conclude our obligation to the Bishop’s Bicentennial Appeal on Oct. 11. This is a direct appeal to you as members of his flock to further the work of the Lord at the diocesan level. 50% of your gifts will return to the parish and will be designated to the work of Mother Teresa House. Go HERE for information. There are also print brochures available in the Narthex.

We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Alan Montgomery as our new organist and choirmaster. Alan is a very talented young musician who was educated in England and at the Juilliard School in New York.

Next Sunday-October 11, after the 10:30 Mass in the Guadalupe Hall we will have a meeting to discuss the ways forward for the music program at OLR. For various reasons, including the COVID pandemic, the music program needs to be built up again, and this gives us the opportunity to explore fresh ideas and directions.

Everyone who is interested in our worship at OLR is welcome to attend. Especially, we would like you to come if you have been a choir member and would consider being part of the music program at OLR.

PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY RALLY On SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10, at 12:00 pm a Rosary will be prayed outside at the Peace Center in downtown Greenville. It

will be offered in conjunction with more than 20,000 Rosary rallies across the USA, under the guidelines of America Needs Fatima. The Rosary will also be offered for 40 Days for Life. Everyone is invited to participate in this wonderful opportunity to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary, and ask her to intercede for

us, asking God’s mercy on this great country.

Join other Upstate Christians to take part in our local 40 Days for Life campaign, through Nov. 1. Prayer, fasting, and public vigil at the abor-tion facility are key components.

Fasting is one’s own sacrifice like giving up a favorite food, tv show, sports game, etc. daily. Those participat-ing are asked to sign a promise to conduct themselves in a peaceful, respectful manner.

40 Days for Life’s Campaign Vigil continues to run 24 hours/6 days a week on the public right-of-way outside Greenville Women’s Clinic, 1142 Grove Road. You can sign up for a daytime hour on Thursdays (OLR’s desig-nated day) HERE, or call Ingrid at 864-329-0044.

LIFE CHAIN - SUNDAY, OCT 4, 2:30 - 3:30 pm – Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful public witness along Woodruff Road (rain or shine) of pro-life individuals standing for 1 hour praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. Respect Life signs are distributed and are a visual statement of solidarity by the Christian community that abortion kills children and that the Church supports the sanctity of human life from the moment of concep-tion until natural death. OLR is assigned the grassy are-as in front of Whole Foods and Cracker Barrel. Please pick up your signs for both locations at Whole Foods parking lot beginning at 2:00 pm. If praying in front of Cracker Barrel, you may then drive over there and park in the area by Drury Inn. Access to Woodruff Rd. is by way of the sidewalk. Guidelines are to stand at a mini-mum 10 feet apart. Call Ingrid 864-329-0044.
